Your best bet would to see an Orthopedic spine surgeon and Neurosurgeons specializing in SIJ dysfunction.

oh I have had that same issue, in fact my sciatic nerve runs THRU my performis muscle, I think this happens with about 1/3 of us. There are some stretches that can be done but not until you have been checked out by a Dr. My Pain Dr. treated me first by injected m muscle directly (hurt like crazy about 3 hrs later) to get it to calm down. I couldn't walk on it at all initially. Eventually I was able to begin stretches which I do daily now to keep it stretched. I believe he used toradol when he injected me then.

I was in a bad motorcycle wreck in 74 and landed right on that point so I've always had issues there, you can see it on the x-ray.

So its your call, but I still think a good PM Dr. would be your best bet. I'd avoid surgery and that's who I'd see to do that.

Have you had an MRI to ensure there is no spinal damage? If there isn't and the SI joint is just jammed, I would definately try a chiropractor before getting any injections. My pelvis is twisted to the right. I have constant SI joint pain-I have been seeing an Ortho for 2 1/2 years now & he has just recently written me off, because now I have started having this burning pain in both feet and legs. Now after all this time, he suggests I just go see a chiropractor. So I ask around and everyone I asks refers me to the same one in town. I am currently seeing him now. He tells me he can fix the pelvis, & it will probably take the burning pain away in my legs-IF-he says I dont have damage from the injections. Yesterday, I was reading about this on some website that tells me if the doctor hits a nerve root then it will cause a burning pain in the legs-Now I am thinking that may be what has happened to me. Those injections are dangerous. I would at least try the Chiropractor to see if he can adjust it and put it back in place-it will be worth it, if he can. On the otherhand, if you don't try it, my husband fractured his spine and they were trying the injections before they did surgery, however they didnt help and he ended up getting a back fusion & is still in just as much pain as before the surgery. The doctor he was seeing was an Ortho & Neurosergeon both-had been to school for both-But from what I understand, they both will do the injections-a Neuro or Ortho. But if I was you, and the problem was a dislocation as you say, I would see the Chiropractor first. I wish someone would have told me this before I had all those injections. When I was asking around about a referral to the chiropractor, my cousin, who was in a bad car wreck a few years ago, said that her pelvis was jammed to and that the chiropractor fixed her, & that every once in a while it will start hurting again & she just goes back a few times & she is good to go for a year or so. Hope this helps

I guess everyone has their own opinion and experiences. Back in 2000 when I first started having back issues I began seeing a chiro. He did xrays in his office and began treating me (everyone said he was a great Dr). However after each treatment I would be in terrible pain but he said I would get better after 10 treatments. But the pain got so bad I couldn't stand it. Then I found out I had a tear in my disc and he was PUSHING DOWN on the disc!

My injections are done via fluoroscope when they are done anywhere near the spine (kind of like an xray but its live). I have a wonderful Pain Management Dr. and he's the one who repaired my torn disc via non-evasive technique (no cutting). Other Drs wanted to fuse my spine, so glad I waited and found this Dr.

Whatever you decide to do I wish you the best of luck!

Any suggestions on finding one that "specializes" in strictly SI joints? Ive never heard of one....

Hi,

When you say SI Joint problems, are you talking arthritis? You really don't want to fuse that area from what I hear. I'm sure there are others here that will agree with me. I'd seek a good Pain Management SPecialist with a psychiatry background if you can find one. THere are injections you can get and also a procedure called neurotomy where they burn the nerve there (its water cooled :), but still hurts a bit ) that can take some of the pain away.

SIJ pain is a rough one, I have it some. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Well I feel a little discomfort with the SI area.......But my big problem is the fact that when I fell it moved the joint a little and jammed it which in turn is putting my piriformis in a constant pulled/stressed position. Most of my pain is piriformis/sciatica
