Which Scrooge is better

The 1951 version with Alastair Simm or the 1970 musical with Albert Finney? I just bought both yesterday and watched both today having seen both I prefer the Albert Finney version sooooo much more he is by far the better Ebineezer + the songs really help the film move along without getting boring + Alec Guinesses camp take on Marley is hilarious.

The Alastair Sim one for me. Think all musical versions are pretty ghastly to be honest. The b&w version of the classic film is the only way to go, evokes the proper 'Christmassy' feel and the atmosphere is suitably creaky/creepy when the ghosts drop by.

Plus, great performances throughout, not forgetting a young George Cole as Scrooge learning his trade. Christmas just isn't the same without an annual watch of this.

Alastair Sim, without a doubt. The bit when he wakes to the realisation that it's still Christmas morning, and he has a second chance at life, is just wonderful. The musical version with Albert Finney just didn't do it for me, I'm afraid.

Thirded!

I adore that version of the film. Very christmassy, surprisingly close to the original tale and Caine makes a very good Scrooge.

I also really like the Patrick Stewart one they showed today.

For me its a close thing between Alister Sim and Reginald owen.

Owen did it in 1938 and is superb in the role, it was shown a few years ago and I taped it.
Alister Sim is IMHO Equal in the role and since I am a big fan of the actor I will put him in first place.

Then Reginald Owen, Patrick Stewart and then George C Scott at the bottom.

The Singing versions I can take or leave.

Scrooged I saw a while ago and its nice to see modern interpritations, I hear there is one called Ebie with a female Scrooge wouldnt mind seeing that.
