The first is is by far the best if you want an intelligent horror film.

But for gore/quality of traps I prefer the second to the third.

I loved the first one, and I own the other 3 on DVD, but they steadily decline in quality IMHO.

After I had seen Saw I thought it was a great film. Same as all the sequels as I think they are all good stand alone films when you don't compare them to their predecessors. But overall when I look back on each film aside from each other I think Saw 2 is the best.

Saw 1. Easily. It's the only one that is actually intelligent with it's story, the other 3 are just gore for the sake of gore with an ever dwindling plotline that gets worse and more contrived with each instalment.

I did actually like Saw 2 and 3, but Saw 4 was rubbish.

Agreed - though I actually liked #4, I thought it was clever the way it turned out to be another "game" happening at the same time as the events in #3 as they intersected at times, it also gave us a background to Jigsaw and why he did what he did.

1 because it was unique, 3 was almost as good, 2 was alright. Haven't seen 4 yet, it'll probably be 'good', but I'd be happy if they left it alone now. Knowing there are more sequels doesn't excite me in the slightest, but I'll be watching them just to see how it pans out now.
