Which provider / rate plan would u pick

Currently i have 2 providers:

ATT:
$70 per month after taxes which includes
1000 min w/ rollover
No Night & Weekends (not eligable cause the of the special rate plan)
Unlim text & 3G data

Boost CDMA sprint using an htc mogul :)
$51.13 per month after taxes
Unlim tak, text & 3G web.... NO ROAMING.

Both have great coverage here locally and both are very reliable..!! Ive had att for 5 yrs now and when i got that boost line activated, i put the att phone away for about 3 months and worked off sprint and they were just as good for everything.

Im stuck between the two and not sure which to go with. Id go with Boost but they dont offer roaming which sux cause we take 2-3 cruises per year and not having that international coverage kinda sux. granted its only 2-3 times per year IF THAT, but the fact is knowing when we leave, i wont have any coverage at all.

Which route would u go, and its not about the $$ as in im broke, its just that one is giving me more for less which is so obvious, but one little thing is holding me back which is the no roaming...!!

I'd go with the carrier that gave me the best coverage where I used it - where I live, work, travel and play.

Price doesn't matter if you don't have coverage.

sounds like you mean int'l roaming...

do you *really* need int'l roaming vs just a cell phone when you travel int'l?

seems like the primary difference is whether your friends at home can call you at the same number... but that comes at a HUGE price (I dunno AT&T's rates, but I'm guessing $1-3/min).

It is a simple matter to pick up an unlocked quad band GSM phone for $20 or so and get an int'l roaming SIM (see www.prepaidgsm.net) and your rates are on the order of $0.30-0.50/min, a 80% savings. Some of these SIMs even give you a US domestic phone number to give to your US friends. Or just buy local SIMs where ever you go...

Also it pays to learn Skype if you travel alot internationally... works great, and you can use a smartphone with Wifi... much cheaper than any cell phone solution.

So my int'l traveling solution consists of an unlocked Windows Mobile smartphone (e.g. Tilt, TP/Fuze) which has Wifi and 2100Mhz (for Japan) and quadband, loaded with Skype, and a few int'l roaming SIMs (like www.ekit.com).

BTW if you put Boost CDMA on a Mogul, you can put it on a TP2, which is...
exactly what I'm talking about... a WM CDMA/GSM/UTMS smartphone, it can do Boost *and* GSM quadband *and* Wifi/Skype. There, all in one device...

i have a few quad band gsm phones already...
My plan was to drop att and go with boost AFTER i can succesfully get that touch pro 2 active on boost, then its a matter of finding a nice universal sim chip that will work anywhere in the world... Just slap the sim chip in, put some $$ in the sim account, go on the cruise and be able to use it on the ship as well as use it on any island or country i land on... Then when i get back to the US, remove the sim chip and jump back on sprints network.. simple and easy... Thats what im looking for but i cant seem to find that "universal" sim chip, all the ones i can find are country specific which do me no good cause i dont go to ONE country... When we leave the country, its on a CRUISE ship which goes to different islands and or countries...

unless you know of a universal sim chip that fits my needs, please help me out here...

Well i am biased and would go with att because they are gsm and you can pop your sim card into any gsm phone and off you go no strings attached. If you really don't care about this then you still need to consider att is a large national carrier with enormous network. Boost is a smaller regional carrier that runs a cdma network.

well boost cdma is running on sprint... Do u not think sprint is that large nationwide in comparisson to att.. and considering that sprint has MORE 3G coverage than att..
My rate plan with boost cdma is NATIONWIDE coverage, which means anywhere sprint has native coverage, it will work..

I didn't think these regional carriers lease the entire network. I always assumed boost only leased the metro areas that made it profitable.

I mentioned the way to find these "universal" SIMs... go to www.prepaidgsm.net

There are several. First, of course, nearly all US carriers offer their "universal" SIM: Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, Tmo... the problem is that generally the int'l roaming charges are astronomical. So the alternatives, are these int'l roaming SIMs, most of them use a callback mechanism to help achieve better rates. Several accept free incoming calls, which can combine with domestic int'l rates to produce truly low calling rates. But they are terrible for domestic US calls (because AT&T and Tmo are trying to protect their home markets, I suppose...)

The two I currently use are www.celtrek.com (now Global Roaming) and www.ekit.com . There are others... It kinda depends on where you're going to go (which is why I have more than one).
