which pc do you think is better for gaming?

I'm getting a pc from work and I am trying to work if it'll be better than mine. Here are the specs:
Mine - Zoostorm Intel pentium 4 3 ghz processor 1 gb ram
Work - Dell Amd Atholon 2.4 ghz processor 512 MB ram.

I hope that the fact the other is a Dell and an amd atholon it will work better for gaming? Please help.

Ps I am saving up for a quad core. The kids will eventually have the other 2 pc's
 
It's impossible to answer that without knowing what graphics cards the two machines have.

A 3GHz Pentium 4 with 1GB of RAM is clearly better than a 2.4GHz Athlon XP (I'm assuming) with only 512MB of RAM, and the 3GHz Pentium 4 may just about meet the minimum spec for today's top games if it's running Windows XP and has a decent modern graphics card installed.

Both machines should be fine for running older games, again IF and only if the graphics card is up to scratch!

If the graphics card is a low-end model or the graphics are integrated into the motherboard, the computer will be pretty useless for games.
