Which one should i go for 04-07 mazda 3 or 06 vw jetta?

Im planning of buying a used car and have narrowed down my choices with these two, now my question is which car is more reliable, better gas mileage (main reason why i am switching cars), and roomier (currently have a SUV). I know there is better options out there like hondas, but they r not quite in my budget for what i want. Thank you
