To me it is 9/11... Up until then I had taken my freedom and my liberty for granted. As for the number 1., and 2. I had not yet been born. Number 3. The first moon landing was exciting but that's about it ....And number 5 is a nightmare I wish I could wake up from
1--It has created a deep angst on the planet that helped to configure the
cold war and still causes irrational politics ( like the Israel and the West freaking out about maybe Iran having nukes when Israel has 200 of them).
Balance of power via balance of terror doesn't work when certain folks want hegemony but it has managed to keep wars regional rather than international. So far. cross your fingers.
US Atom Bomb Test, that's easy. With all the Soviet spies swarming around the U.S., that scared the pants off the commies. If we wouldn't have had this weapon, a million or more of our soldiers would have died in Japan and who knows what the Soviet Union would've started with us. We finally had our trump card. And we played it.
