Which Nokias I tried and why I rejected them, model by model.

The D-Pad on the N80 is really only poor for those with big clumsy fingers who can't operate buttons unless they are absolutely distinct. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it is the truth. I had absolutely no issues at all operating the N80 D-pad. I do however, have problems with the N73 joystick. Having to physically push your thumb up/down/left/right is far harder than just pressing down on the edge of a key (as is with a D-Pad). I am very much looking forward to going back to a phone with a D-Pad.
 
One of the good things about the N75 is the keypad. It's very much like the keypad on the 6170, and that was one of the best I've seen.
 
The N95 has a large keypad.
And a large D-pad - with independent centre button and large directional.
Pheonix is very much looking forward to it for exactly this reason.
To the poster who didn't glean it from my OP, I'm running a 6680.
To the poster who thinks I have a clumsy thumb - I don't.
But I do like using hardware that's EASY to use.
There are no medals for designing something that frustrates a significant percentage of potential users.
If Sammy can get it right, then surely Nokia can too ?
 
I love the Nokia 6682. I think that this phone is awesome and one of the best phones for Nokia. I usually complain about keypads being to small for my fingers, but for some reason this phone did okay. Camera, which I don't use is awesome for a 1.3MP. I hope the n75 is just as good.
 
I agree withi this statement... e50 keypad is cool.. joystick SUX!

I like the n70 keypad... the trick with the n70 is if you remove that little metal trim around the keypad it makes the buttons sorta elevated allowing easier typing..
 
Thats one of the oddest (and funniest) complaints I've ever heard. I litterally laughed out loud in the middle of class, like a crazy person.
