talent but their whole lifestyle? I would've worded that better but I ran out of characters. But you get what I mean, right?
For example, yes Steve Vai is an amazing guitarist and composer and musician in general, but his whole persona that radiates such complimentary opposites as sexy intelligence and silly spirituality all with a very natural grace makes me look up to him stylistically as a whole human being and not just as a musician.
Same goes with Patti Smith. Yes, she's a brilliant lyricist and artist in general, but her earthy persona that's humble and confident at the same time makes her my role model for life in general, and not just musically.
Q1: Are there any musicians you admire in this way?
Q2: Do you think their persona has a lot or a little to do with how much you love their music?
Q3: Are there any musicians whose music you like, but persona's you despise? What's the deal there, do you think?
Grammar typo-- I meant "complementary", not "complimentary". Dammit, I never screw those up! My apologies.
Fair Judgement-- that's a fair question. i would say yes, you'd have to look into their personal lives a bit. not to point of being obsessive, but by listening to what they have to say in interviews to understand their intellect and personal philosophy and noting how they dress and whether they're womanizers or in a happy marriage, just to get an idea of what they stand for.
