I'm going to buy a motorcycle (used of course, because I'm a poor college kid) and i have narrowed my choices down to a Yamaha YZF- R6 or the Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R. Does anybody have any advice to offer as to which is more reliable, which will last longer, ect.

please no comments like... "both are stupid, go with Suzuki or Honda" or "yamaha sucks" or "Kawasaki sucks".... you get the idea

They are pretty much identical in my book.

I think you should base your choice on which bike you like better. Go ride each one, and purchase the bike that you feel more comfortable with or like better.

Both bikes are reliable- most Japanese bikes are.

The reliability of either of these bikes will depend more on the maintenance regime of the previous owner and the way it's been ridden rather than an inherent reliability. If the previous owner(s) thrashed the knackers off it, never changed the oil and it wasn't run in properly when it was bought new, it'll probably be a dog, regardless.

Caveat emptor.

I have just the opposite opinion, out of the Big 4, I have always noticed that Kawasaki is a bit more durable in the materials they use compared to the others, not so fast to hop on the "plastic driveline component" bandwagon. A slight bit more sedate in their styling and engineering.

Yamaha
the build quality is better on the Yamaha
I look at Kawasaki as a generic bike
