Which Model Receiver Includes the New Guide?

Hey guys, I just recently discovered this forum and I'm loving it... so much I didn't know about this service until now.

Anyways, I recently purchased the 4100 series receiver, and on the box there was a picture of the guide. However, the guide interface the 4100 used didn't look anywhere near that of the one displayed on the box.

So just out of curiosity, what receiver model(s) include that new guide?

Thank you.

(Apologies if this is posted in the wrong section, the question applies to all receivers in some way so I wasn't sure which forum to post it in)

PVR's have a 9 day guide. AS far as i know, all the receiver's have options to change the size of the guide, as well as to display (or not) the current channel in the top right of the display. Not sure what's on the box, so I have no idea exactly what guide you are referring to.

Be more specific and you will probably get a better answer...

No no, I don't mean the size of the guide or anything, I mean the interface, the design looks completely different (Different colors, shapes etc...), but the guide included with the 4100 looks very plain. I'm just curious to know as to what receivers include that newer style guide.

I would post a picture, unfortunately I have no clue where I've put the box now...

For Bell receivers, I've had a 3100, a 5900 and I currently have a 9200 so those are the only ones I can comment on.

The 9200 has a much better display. It uses a couple of different fonts and has a 'fancier' layout with a bit more colour. Instead of nothing but shades of blue, they also use some red, yellow, green, and orange. You get a small window on the top right corner showing the channel you are tuned to.

Below is a screenshot of the 9100 program grid.. It's a little dark, I underxposed it a bit.

I appreciate you posting that pic and I think you may have helped me figure out what the original poster was after.

Your color scheme is NOT the standard one, you have made a Custom Favorite Group and called it "Main". That explains why the comment about different colors.

All Favorites have different colors, that can be achieved on all Express Vu receivers.

The 9200 is, As Far As I Know, the only one to give the option of 7 lines of text.

Yes.. That's my custom channel lineup that I called 'Main' It only contains the channels I normally watch..... The default "All Channels" is dark blue.

But there still are more colours.. The Bell logo is fancier with the yellow graphic. In all the menus, the highlighted buttons are orange.. One of the 'tuner' indicators is bright green and in the 'search' screen the button that lets you know if you're searching the 'Title' or 'Program Info' is bright purple..... There is also a textured background with shading on most of the menus. The 3100 and 5900 didn't have this.

Below is a shot of the search menu showing the purple selection button, the orange highlight button and the green tuner button.

Yes, that's the guide I'm talking about!

I have the 3100, 4100 and I just purchased the 5900 tonight. The 4100 shows a picture of THAT guide (The one you say the 9100 has) on the box, but the guide it really includes is actually a much plainer version of that guide. It looks the same, but it looks much less "3D", instead of using gradietns and such, it's all flat colors, and much less color roo (It's basically all just solid white or solid blue, unless you create a Favorite Guide).

My question is, what other receivers include the same guide interface as the one you posted (The 9100)?

As a side note, the 3100 and 5900 have the same interface.

I think the original poster is probably looking at a "Dish" EPG picture which I have noticed in the instructions on a couple of the Bell receiver types. I guess their s/w is a little unique although I am sure the EV s/w is a mod of DN's.

Or maybe not :^)

jwt873 - Nice to see you are also a fan of such high-brow entertainment!

Yes, jwt873, that's the guide I'm talking about!

I have the 3100, 4100 and I just purchased the 5900 model tonight. The guide shown on the side of the 4100 packaging shows the guide you posted (Which you say is included with the 9100), but really the guide it includes is a much simpler version of that guide. It's layout is the same, but the colors used are much more plain; rather than gradients, it uses solid blues and white.

My question is, what other receiver models include that same guide that you showed? It looks so much better than the interface used in the 3100, 4100 and 5900, I'm a little curious as to why they didn't include that interface with all their systems or update them to use it.

Also, as a side note, the 3100 and 5900 use the same guide interface.

Obviously only the 3200, 5200 and 9200 have the Dual Tuners but the other Guide colours are pretty much the same I believe on the current models anyway.

There are 6 Favorites, I believe so theoretically 6 different color shemes.

If you create a Favorites List you will see a change in the colors.

You will NOT get 7 lines of Data though, that is ONLY on the 9200.

I don't think you understand what I mean. I'll post a picture of the 4100 guide tomorrow to show you. I'm aware that the color sheme changes with different favorite groups, but here I'm talking about the interface as a whole.

DavidT, to answer your question the 3200, 5200 and 9200 models have the guide you are asking about.
Those models use linux based software where as none of the others do.

Ah, that's the answer I was looking for, thank you!

Do you think there is any possability of other receivers receiving an update to that linux bassed firmware? It's much easier on the eyes.

Highly unlikely
I can't see them spending money on something like that
If you really like it, you can always rent/buy a 9200

I am still waiting to see the box, I cannot believe that the 4100 or 4120 box shows a Guide that is NOT the 4100......

@I hate tv: Those models are a wee bit expensive right now. Plus, I just bought a 5900 yesterday, so I doubt I'll be buying a new receiver anytime soon.

@Nimiq 1: As soon as I find the box, I'll take a picture and post it. Easier said then done though, with the amount of boxes in my basement, it could be mistaken for a carboard factory. But it's true, the picture on the 4100 box showed the guide interface that the 9100 uses, not the 4100.

Too bad
If you shopped around (online usually) you may have found a 9200 for sale
I have seen quite a few in recent months, averaging around $300 per receiver
I doubt they would have any warranty left on them, but it would have given you a a dual tuner pvr, uhf remote to 2nd tv, etc...
Im sure the prices will drop on them anyways, once the MPEG4 receivers come out, so just suffer a lil bit, maybe a year, and then splurge on a used "obsolete" 9200, you'll love it

OK, the Guide on the Box looks like the new guide for all newer models to me, not sure what Guide you have on your receiver.

I have not had a chance to fire up a 4100 to see what I get from the receiver.

I've been told that the picture shown on the 4100 box is the same as the dual tuner guide, however, in reality it is a watered down version. Perhaps due to memory limitations??
