Hi all,

I am 5"11" 155 pounds with a strong interest in learning a martial art. I mainly want to do this for fitness reasons and for self defense/offense techniques.

i dont want to do any grappling, wrestling etc, i am looking at an art thats not size or weight dominated that requires speed combining punches and kicks.

I also want to learn techniques which show you how to avoid taking strikes!!

Having done some research myself i have found Muay Thai of interest.

Based on what i've said do you think that would suit me? What other arts do you think i should consider?

Thank you very much for your time :)

Try Muay Thai or Kung fu, I think both would suit you.

If you do kung fu, just make sure you check the references on the teacher

Muay Thai is not the best if your looking for speed and dodging, it is the concept of getting your enemy down in the least time possible. For you I would suggest Jujitsu.

you could try kyokushin karate! muay thai has some grappling involved in the muay thia clinch. but you cant find a fighting style that has absolutely no grappling. if you want you also could try boxing

I've taken Tae-Kwon Do. It is mainly based on defense, so I recommend it. Also it's one you'd be more likely to find locally since it, along with Karate and Kung Fu, is one of the most popular martial arts. It is Korean. It is pretty fast-paced as well. So I think it is perfect for you. :)
