I want to be a teacher for high school students; possibly as an English teacher. Should i go as an English major? or a child development major? Some people told me to go as an English major and others have told me to go to child development, so I'm really confused.

Thanks!

Different states will have different regulations/certifications. You may need a Special Ed degree or you may just need a few extra classes. Check your state department of education.

You can also check the 2 sites below - the Occupational Outlook Handbook can define the teaching part, and Education Degree can help you find the schools...

There are different majors. All lead to a BSEd degree. (Bachelor of Science in Education)

English (Secondary) is generally the major for someone wanting to teach grades 7-12

Special Education is the major for someone wishing to teach special education classes.

Child Development is something completely different... it's a Psych degree, if I remember correctly.
