which is the best form of exercise using a: rowing machine; a recumbent cycle

or a workout on a home gym.? I run every night but I'm worried about the affect the jolting impact is having on my joints, I already struggle with my ankles and don't want to damage them more. what I want is something to mix up my regime so that I do one night running, one night something else. which form of exercise will I benefit from the most? Thanks in advance!
