Hi I have cs3 and photoshop elements 7. These programmes do so much to enhance photos. My predicament is that although i would like to buy a Nikon d300 or d90. Or a canon 40D for there sensors am I just wasting my money if I can get the same results on a computer screen with the above software. I can uderstand paying extra for film cameras or even large printed blow-up use. But if all I'm going to do is look at them on my monitor then surely any cheaper model. Like the d40 or equivalent will bring exactly the same results when used with photoshop elements or cs3/4 wouldn't it. (Or maybe just a marginal difference. ). I know its nice to have all the controls at your fingertips but 9/10 you will be using roughly the same settings for your shots so even then that novelty will wear off. The most sophisticated photographic software is now on the PC. So utilizing that with a DSLR camera that does the job is more practical. Even a compact like the LX3 takes DSLR equivalent pictures and that is much cheaper. (The depth of field argument is also bypassed as you can use Guassian blur on the background to make your image stand outon both cs3 and elements. Maybe I'm missing something but like I said at the start. I would buy a d300 or the like if there was a 25% improvement on pictures in all aspects. But the latest Pc software pulls all these cameras together picture quality wise (On a Pc monitor).
