Which word would you use for the singular use? Fungus or Fungi

Which word would you use for the plural use? Fungus or Fungi

Thanks all

fungus is singular

fungi is plural

(oh and do you own a dictionary or know of google?)

The origin of the "us" turning to "i" most likely came from the Latin language. In latin, any noun ending in "us" is considered a second declension noun. To make second declension nouns plural, they replaced the us with an i.

It doesn't really make sense when it is done in English since we are used to seeing "es" as the plural noun ending. But it's just the way English is - it's a freaking annoying language to learn.

Weird enough Fungus is used for singular and Fungi is used for plural. I just remember that from Bio class
