maintenance is not the issue, because you do the same thing no matter what rim. I know from personal experience, that the better the finish is, the more durable and long lasting the rim will look, cheap rims will not hold up to the corrosion factor. and I do not live in a state that uses salt
My sister bought some extremely expensive rims for her toyota pickup. When I first heard how much she paid, I thought somebody took her wallet for a ride, The were triple chrome plated and looked great.
five years later she dropped the truck off when her family outgrew the regular cab pickup for me to sell.
she had never cleaned the rims, when I fist saw them, I was sure they were destroyed. It fook me awhile, but after some water and a lot of elbow grease, and sos pads I finished cleaning and just walked away. when I came back, I realized, that those rims were in perfect condition and looked brand new, there were no pits no rusted through spots and were shinning brightly in the sun. five years of brake dust did nothing. The excellent quality center caps and lug nuts, where also perfect.
I on the other hand bought some inexpensive white spoke wheels, within a year, the brake dust ate the paint and rusted the cheap lug nuts and center caps. so that all the rims looked cheap and crappy.
that salt is going to eat up any cheap painted rim you buy, If anything is going to look good, it is chrome, but I would go down to your local tire store and talk to them, a good quality rim that the salt will not eat to crap, is going to be in the 8 hundred to a thousand dollar range for 4 I would think.black is not a good color for rims, good luck
