Which is better...private or public university's?

I really love two private schools but one is 18,000 a year and the other is 28,000 a year. I could not go to the 28,000 unless it was by scholarship. Does anyone have any experience in which is better? I could go to a state school for about 7,000 a year.. all of this is tuition only.
 
You can get a great education at both public and private schools. My sister was valedictorian and is going to a public school. I've dreamt of going to a public school my whole life.
