That Sounds Interesting

Hi. I'm a beginner photographer who just bought his first SLR camera. I'm wanting to do some editing as well but I'm not too sure which software is better. I've always perceived Photoshop as for professionals and quite expensive. Aperture, I haven't heard much of ( I own a mac). Which software is best for me? Photography is just a hobby of mine. What's the difference between the two, pros and cons? Thanks in advance
