Which is a better extension to use, htm or html?

I've been using some web documents on notepad, not microsoft and doing a little mix and wondering if there was any difference?

I think that html is better in the appearance

They are both the same. .htm just has a shorter name

unless you're in dos.. then the filename will come out funny, but who has dos these days? lol
