I am thinking of buying a bike but I can't decide which bike would be better? I am looking for good performance, ability to carry a passenger in the back with ease, reliability, ease of maintenance, and of course power and light weight? So which one of these meets most of these criteria? Which one should I get?
Which is a better bike the 2009 sv650 or the 2009 Yamaha R6s?

Both your choices are unsuitable for carrying a passenger any distance and neither is a "simple" bike to work on. So tell the truth. You really want a horsepower monster to thrash until it dies and hopefully that will take a while to accomplish. Get the Suzuki or start looking for a 2 up bike if you really want to carry another person.
The R6 is more aggressive and lighter(though less comfortable)
The SV650 would be more similar to the Yamaha FZ6 and they would both be considered middleweight sportbikes. They will offer a little more upright seating, they are better able to carry a passenger, and are great all around bikes.
