Ethanol is the easiest to make, can be produced sustainably, is generated from crops, so actually helps reduce greenhouse gasses while feedstock for ethanol is growing. The only downside for ethanol right now is the efficiency and cost, both of which are active areas of research, so hopefully this will become better.
