Which FOX animated show should go the movies?

With the Simpsons movie right around the corner, I was wondering what other FOX prime time animated shows folks felt deserved the same treatment. Alot of this is hypothetical.

Futurama would work pretty well as a movie.

American Dad could do alright, too.

Family Guy managed to do well enough with it's DVD movie, so I guess it could work.

But I'd say Futurama is the obvious choice, as the most plot and character oriented of the shows.

Futurama definitey most lends itself to a movie. It seems most capable of pulling an actual plot together and sticking to it for two hours. The FG movie, funny as it was, was actually just three episodes stuck together and definitely feels like it. American Dad could actually make a great political satire if they put their hearts into it, but somehow I don't see that happening.

King of the Hill... well, I've never liked it and still groan whenever I see it coming on Sunday nights when I expect a Simpsons rerun. So no, just no.

I like KOTH, but it's too realistic a show to work as a movie.

Family Guy is rarely plot-oriented and the cutaways would get old after an hour. It wouldn't work on screen.

American Dad has a better chance, but not a better chance of making decent box office numbers.

So yes, Futurama is the only choice. Case closed.

Definitely Futurama, it's the most character/plot oriented. It's also extremely funny ;) . Although, Futurama is getting some direct-to-DVD movies of it's own soon. The first one is supposed to come out around December, reportedly.

They actually are making Futurama movies, sort of. The new Futuramas are said to be done in an arc fashion, and will double as DTV movies in addition to appearing as half-hour installments on Comedy Central.

The only one of those shows that's movie worthy (IMHO) is Futurama.

A Family Guy film wouldn't work because the average FG ep tells a very simple story and packed with gags. Features, by contrast, have much more complex plots and can not be intensely packed with gags. Like the Looney Tunes characters, the FG characters simply don't have deep enough personalities to sustain an audiences attention for more than an hour.

A King of the Hill movie could possibly work, but I don't see what kind of plot it would have.

As for American Dad, I wouldn't watch AD on TV for free, so I sure wouldn't pay money to see a movie about it.

Futurama is an obvious choice for a movie. The plot/characters/setting could easily set itself up for an epic 90 minute or so movie revolving around another one of those universal threats the Nebolians need Fry for (hinted in the DVD commentary) or something. But it's defintley doable.

I could sort of see a King of the Hill Movie as well. I mean don't forget Beavis and Butthead had a movie as well and that worked pretty well. And KOTH has more rewatchability in a sense then B&B. Although yeah it would need to be a pretty good plot but hey I wouldn't doubt they're abilities to make one.

Family Guy and American Dad however, no. FG is obvious since even if they were making a movie instead of three episodes disguised as a DTV they wouldn't have the attention span to do a full plot with it without it degrading and dragging down all over the place. American Dad has that problem as well. Not as much but certainly too much to get an actual full lengh movie about it.

So yeah I'd vote for either KOTH of Fut. Besides, technically the creative team already had/has movies in the work (B&B for KOTH, at least in Mike Judge case, and Simpsons for Fut, in Matt Groening's case) so they have history with it.

How would a King Of The Hill movie work? I mean, you couldn't really come up with a good plot for it that hasn't already been used, and it'd get old after the length of a normal episode.

Family Guy wouldn't work because it'd go overboard with the cutaways which would get old after a while, and if there weren't as many, than the fans would be disappointed, and you'd release the fact that the show can't hold itself on it's own without the cutaways. And the writers would go overboard with an R rating, losing a good deal of it's audience.

American Dad might work, but not many people would go see it anyway.

Futurama, by default, would be the best bet, but probably woudln't keep a good plot for 90+ minutes.

Futurama's getting a lot of love, as it should. It lends itself to a movie much better than the others.

A King of the Hill movie would have to have something big, which would be a little farfetched for the show, so it wouldn't work well. American Dad could do something like this, but only after it's lasted at least 5 seasons.

I voted for a Family Guy movie, but in fear of it being 10 times more violent than the show (I have limits), Futurama seems like a good idea too. Considering how it's set in the future, you can do much more with it. And the series proved to mix comedy and heart better than the other Fox shows (even better than the Simpsons).
