Which flip phone? Is my only choice the N76?

I'm currently using a Nokia 6131 - which I've had for around a year. There are several problems which I'm having which are forcing me to upgrade - 1) dirt buildup on the screen, and surrounding areas 2) Charger Pin too loose 3) battery connection etc, not perfect.

I don't have a budget but my requirements for a new phone are:

1) Flip Phone
2) No External Antennae
3) Around same size as my existing 6131 - I even find the Motorola Razor bordering on large!
4) Front Display (with caller ID display)
5) Battery life and compatibility - I very often forget my charger when traveling, so I need to be able to buy a new generic charger easily.

I really like the look and size of the new SE z320i (but this does not have the caller id at the front) - but the simplicity suits me perfectly.

Is my only choice the N76?

Motorola RAZR2 V8/V9. It has smaller dimensions and better battery life than the N76. Also, it puts the N76's external display to shame. Finding a charger for it should be rather easy as well. It's not releaed yet but it should be out soon.

Anyways don't let the name scare you away. The phone is much improved over its predecessor.

Hi maxideli,
I work in cell phone business (sells and repair).
Your choice is absolutely right!
First time that i power on n76 i thought that it's s40 (not symbian) phone.
It load only for few seconds!
At first my suggestion was that CPU is more then 231MHz (e50 has fastest CPU).
But not CPU speed was 183MHz.. the i saw the RAM!
90MB RAM !!!!!
lol never seen sucha memory at other symbian phone!

hope that will help to your decision

regards,

P.S.
NEVER EVER buy ANY motorola phone
Nothing personal, kingsford

Maxideli is looking for alternatives. Check out the last line of his post. And based on what he has told us the RAZR2 is the better phone for him. It beats the N76 in everything thats important to him (size, external display, battery life). I've had both Nokia and Motorola phones and I like both. Ignore Masterross' last comment because there's no basis to it. I've been using the Motorola ROKR E6 for a while now. It's fast and probably the most stable phone I've used. Nokia's are excellent phones as well. I loved my N80 when I had it.

Anyways, either phone would be a good choice. Good luck

I was disappointed with the N76. It's kind of large, and the headphone jack is in the worst possible place - on the hinge so you can't flip the phone open while headphones are plugged in. So dumb. I like Series 60 phones a lot, but honestly was kind of let down by this one.

I take it you want GSM only?

I just got my N75 and I'm pretty happy with it. However, you'll need to cut from MiniUSB to PopPort (your current charger will work fine though). Haven't had the chance to run down the battery yet.

If you're not worried about 3G, the Nokia 6290 is a Euro phone available under $300 from Ebay.

Nice thing about sticking with a Nokia is you'll get an extra charger...stick it in your bag or something.
