Which film genre dates/ages the quickest?

Though you were referring to metaphorical guns it did remind me of some films that still seem as good to me today as a decade/two decades ago, and though people may laugh, it's most of Arnie's action flicks. The Terminator has aged, I admit, but T2 I think could be released at the cinema today and still be impressive. Same for True Lies and, to a lesser extent (barring Sharon Stone's eyeshadow and the dodgy alien make-up) Total Recall. No, I just remembered the perms - forget I mentioned Total Recall.

I think The Fly has aged terribly, though it's still a great film. Agree with you about Jurassic Park but it's only the effects that have held up, the story isn't that engaging now.

I'd say if was look at things from a one sided point of view then Sci-Fi movies because of the special effects/CGI angle but if we look deeper it's usually movies that don't show much restraint or rely too much on they're era's movies cliches-whichever the genre.

I disagree,I think it's only say the last 10 mins or so that has aged at all (when we see the full Brundlefly hybrid).Up until then-apart from a few to be expected hairstyles, fasions it is still as fresh as it was in 86.

Another vote here for Sci-fi...

Without wishing to get too much into the nitty gritty I'd say that my basic argument is that sci-fi tenRAB to work its way around dystopias/utopias formed from 'unimaginable' technology. Therefore...

1) all-too-often the technology becomes science fact, be it automatic doors in Star Trek or hoverboarRAB in BTTFII.

2) these films revolve around the mystique and fear of the unknown; as decades pass these 'horrors of the futures' become less threatening. For example, 'Invaders of the Bodysnatchers' relied on Cold War paranoia to fuel its message - without it, it all seems rather absurd (and even humourous at times).

Rubbish! In general terms, old horror films are more psychological and therefore quite scary. A lot of modern horror has depended on gore (lots of) and brief shock "jump" moments
