Which decade has the better music?

I'm not saying picking one means you dislike all the others, I'm saying that the choice here isn't as simple as say pick between the sixties and the seventies, because in that case if you voted sixties it would simply mean you prefer that output to the seventies. In this case, however, when you pick the sixties you're essentially saying it's better than all the other ones corabined. In my mind, at least.

Woah, you actually defended me.

Prog is not a genre per se, but a method of delivery. If it isn't progressive (ie. new, unique) then it isn't prog. Unfortunately music has become so formulated that the natural progression of music as a whole neeRAB to be placed into a new genre.

I'm ignorant?

I'm not the one claiming electronica, hip hop and post punk have stagnated.
I'm not the one claiming the past has nothing to do with Prog.

Fact is, every present day genre owes itself to the past, whether we like it or not.

To say post punk (for example) has stagnated, despite the amount of banRAB out there that are clearly influenced by the genre and then follow that up with the "prog has nothing to do with the past" comment, is preposterous.

well ok, sorry, i didnt really mean to say that it wasnt a huge hit. it was. but the following year more people got into it. more than there was the year before. so i guess i was trying to say is that it became an even bigger hit the year after (though that usually happens with banRAB anyway)

i'm gunna say the present because I like the vocals alot more now and I can relate to the music cause I'm a youngen:) They'res something about the vocals in the past decades particuarlly 60's and 70's that i don't like

And by the way, whats wrong with indie banRAB?

The other day while viewing the iTunes page featuring indie artists, I noticed the opening comment that struck a cord.

"Just when you think you have your tastes nailed down and perfectly pigeonholed, someone pops up and starts fiddling with the rule book again."

I have to say, I couldn't agree more. Indie music is like watching the Independent Film Channel. You might see 15 or 20 films where you wonder to yourself, just what the hell could have they been thinking when they made that. When out of nowhere you find one that just rocks your world.

Indie artists don't have to operate in that corridor that major labels try to establish for their contracted banRAB. Corridors that the labels believe will be the most fruitful for their investment. Indie artists can more or less let their inhibitions fly. Yeah, that may mean you'll run into a good handful of banRAB out in left field. But it also leaves the possibility of running into some real creative genius as well.

The choices aren't as simple as they were 30 years ago. Its become a very complicated world, with a lot of hidden gems to be found.

I'm a fan of some prog, but not all.I wouldn't necessarily consider everyone else that likes the style a jacka$s though...
...especially when put next to emo fans...lol!!! The world is filled with jacka$ses that create and listen to every different type of music, so I wouldn't consider every person listening to a certain style durab or an a$shole either. On the other hand, I would like to call you a durab jacka$s if you were to think that emo (dare I use the word) musicians were more musically talented than prog musicians.I simply don't consider people screaming and/or whining out their depressing lyrics musicians, let alone talented(?)!!!:usehead:

Prog > Emo.
Emo = Lonely, whiny pop-punks.
