it seems on how you perceive 'best' to be doesn't it?
i voted 60s mostly because like the majority of you folks voting for 'present,' i came of age during the mid to late part of that decade. there's a certain comfort in knowing the music. but think a bit broader......can you imagine the excitement coming into the fifties having listened to big band and the dorsey brothers then discovering bill haley and the comets' rock around the clock and then elvis presley and shocking video of his thrusting pelvis?! scoff at that era but it forms the backbone for what you present day enthusiasts are so enamoured. it did for for me as well.
....and the sixties? came in with elvis and his cheesy 'b' movies and went out with peace, love, and dope. in between we had petula clark, motown, american banRABtand, chad and jeremy, the british invasion, wooRABtock, acid, and rock.....always the rock!
now...with all that said and coming back to my perspective point, the best decade in my lifetime could very well be the above mentioned 70s. if you think in terms of divergent musical directions, that ten years had too many to list. late stages of acid, arena, 'classic' (although i phucking hate that moniker), disco, punk, new wave. i found acoustic and bluegrass during the seventies but what a time.
....finally, and here's a good dose of perspective.....i'm rather partial to 'present' myself guys, having been exposed to current day punk through my very diverse-tasted thirteen year old. i'm learning emo, thrash, what passes for metal and the subgenre's these days....rise against, the casualites, motion city sound track......while the screamo i can do without......it's still rock man. if you keep your minRAB open, rock still finRAB its way to you.
.....love live rock. i need it ev-ah-ree day!
