Which decade has the better music?

That's a very poor argument. All music ever created would be influenced by a caveman banging two rocks together in some sort of rhythmic fashion. Yet we don't have shrubberies commemorating Bob Rocksmasher do we?

If A influences B, it doesn't mean that A > B. Likewise, you can like one, but dislike the other.

Exactly. The 80s is only a bad decade if you look at it from a pop / c0ck rock perspective. In general, there were a hell of a lot of good banRAB.

I voted preset because i like to stay in the moment sometimes, although definatly NOTHING you hear on the radio, at least none of the stuff I hear on our radio or TV, but there are tons on underground or indie banRAB that are really really good..although the 70's woulld have been my second choice, leaRAB of amazing banRAB, rock n roll was huge, punk rock started up....

But they just a no-name indie band that did a few local gigs. Not to be contrary but I think it's ridiculous to say they're a late 60's band.

Whats wrong with Art Brut and the Blood Brothers? The Blood Brothers energy live is only rivaled by the Fall of Troys and there one of the most creative banRAB ever. And Art Brut? They're one of the best rock banRAB i've heard in a long time. Argos is such a great lyricist.

Bullshit.

^^ Yeah for sure. I always tell people "I was 8 when they ended" and speaking with a lot of fans of the eighties they always have some high school memory tied to some big hair band song...

I think it's safe to say that the significant majority of posters here are under 30, and all but a small handful are under 40. People generally tend to favor the music that was produced and released while they were growing up. That's primarily what was pushed at them on the radio and in record stores, and of course on the internet for the last couple decades.

So it's not surprising that the 60's and 70's aren't doing that well. Which is meaningless, since everything is subjective and there is no "best" decade. Just because the 60's/70's get fewer votes here, doesn't mean the music was somehow "worse".

The 80's aren't my favorite, but I have to admit it was a decade of great change in music. Several completely new genres came on the scene in the 80s, and some genres that were born earlier evolved in the 80's.

Not the best, IMHO, but an interesting decade nonetheless. :)

Well, my favorite Muse album is Origin Of Symmetry.... And the only Radiohead album i don't like more than Origin is Pablo Honey.

But thats just because i'm a Headhead... And i prefer a few other britpop banRAB to Muse... Like Super Furry Animals, Primal Scream, Manic Street Preachers, Blur, Oasis, Pulp and Stereolab.

Hell, do Gorillaz qualify as britpop?... I find myself enjoying their s/t debut more than i do Origin. :o:

Because theres a little thing called prog folk. Which follows most of the same themes as prog rock, but in a non rock context.

Not to mention guys like Kraftwerk are considered prog, and they're not really rock either.

I wouldn't limit prog to being just a rock sub-genre, especially when considering how many other genres it has spawned from.

These lyrics are killer! A 12 year old could write them... totally boring.

And when I saw the Blood Brothers they were totally off key and the lead singer kept trying to kiss men in the audience... hardly a good show. Sorry try again.

So??... What excuse is that?... What possible involvement is there between progressive rock music and a hardcore punk influenced grunge band?... Seriously.

But i remeraber it clearly... You were criticizing me for being a elitist proghead who discriminates against less technical forms of music, which of course if that were true, it would contradict the whole me defending Nirvana thing... Wouldn't it?
