I have just completed year 12 and achieved a 20 in biology but also did well in (and enjoyed) english history and a foreign language. My first preference would have been to do medicine but as I did not sit the UMAT this is no longer an option.
However, one way for me to get into medicine would be to study advanced science and take the UMAT next year. This science degree would count (in a small way) towards the medicine degree if I got in. Although, if I didn't get in through the UMAT I could always finish this science degree and then complete the GAMSAT to hopefully get into medicine.
However, when I was not able to get into medicine it was suggested I look into Law, which as I have looked into have found somewhat interesting (although it is hard to tell having never done any law courses). Therefore another option is to take Law next year and sit the UMAT and then I can choose between the two should I be offered a place in medicine. However, this would mean that I could end up having a difficult decision next year and also that if I find Law uninteresting or difficult and do not do well I may not be able to get into medicine for that reason as you need high marks to get in. Furthermore I may not know what to do as I haven't tried medicine other than biology and chemistry at school.
