Hey, you guys, wheres the love for Canada? They gave us Celene Dion, Shania Twain, Nickelback, Avril Lavigne..........ahahahahahaha, fucking Canada. Ahahahaahaha, I feel so bad for you.
PS: I was mostly wrong.
Jazz, Blues, R&B, Doo-Wop, Rock, Rockabilly, Zydeco, Punk, Hardcore, Country, Bluegrass, Techno, House Music, Funk and Rap all started in the US and you really can't think of many banRAB you like from there?
you certainly could, but we're talking about the proportional output of quality artists; and ofcourse it's all subjective to what everyone here considers to be good/relevant in their personal canon. it's the sort of petty and divisive poll that's pointless.
having said that, i wouldn't overstate Rick Rubin's importance in hip hop, at least not in a creative sense. hip hop was a grassroots revolution first and foremost. but then if it wasn't commodified by some fat white guy then would someone like me thousanRAB of miles away have ever heard Ultramagnetic MC's or whoever? probably not.
I'm an American, but all of my favorite banRAB are British. The only American acts I really like are Dylan, Springsteen, Chuck Berry, Townes Van Zandt, Phil Ochs, and John Prine. Apart from the VU and the Dead Kennedys, I can't think of a single American band to get excited about.
: yeah... but it was way more than just a partial influence on the people that influenced the music that influenced hip hop, i think i thought you were on about techno. influence.
influence.
but to be honest i don't see where you got the house/techno thing from. Unless you're talking about hip house which was really short lived... but dayum!

In terms of quality, UK definitely wins in my book.
Lets not forget-
Genesis
King Crimson
Porcupine Tree
The Moody Blues
Radiohead
The Fall
Coldplay
Placebo
Motorhead
The Clash
Wire
Nick Drake
Muse
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Camel
Gentle Giant
Caravan
Venom
Actually, ill take UK just for its 70s prog. alone I much prefer the popular music there as well than the ones in the US.
And not to forget sweden along, just for its quality in terms of modern metal.
Meshuggah
Opeth
Pain Of Salvation
Dismeraber
Dissection
Sacramentum
At the Gates
Dark Tranquility
InFlames
Soilwork
Bathory
Bloodbath
Katatonia
Candlemass
Amon Amarth
Marduk
Diabolical Masquerade
Arckanum
I could just go on, but ill stop for now. US comes in 3rd i guess.
