Which country (within the Anglosphere) makes the best music?

Quit yer whining :P I don't see how you can complain that poor 'little' Britain deserves more cred because ratios aren't taken into account when Britain and the US are dominating the polls just as they dominate most other things in the world due to sheer size and influence. Britain is not small. Britain's population: 60,943,912. Australia's: 21,007,310. Look how many votes Australia has. We are a much, MUCH smaller country than both of you, as are many other countries in the world that produce amazing music that never gets heard.

Polls like these are pointless because the US and UK are ALWAYS always always going to be the top two. Does this mean that those nations make the best music? No. It means these two countries produce the most music that hits the mainstream and that we listen to.

There is also a glut of inane and dull music being poured out in australia.
A few years ago all we had scene-wise was "Pub-rock" - which basically delineates an AC/DC cover band, nowadays every man and his favourite pet is in an indie-electro band and there is still just as much ****e on the local scene.

Nick Cave, The Birthday Party, Midnight Oil, The Seekers, The Cat Empire, Gotye, Karnivool, Cog, Yothu Yindi, Silverchair, Paul Kelly, John Butler Trio, Crowded House, The Living End, Sleep Parade, Grinspoon, Dead Letter Circus, Josh Pyke...

Just because you haven't heard of Australian music, pretty much because it's impossible for Australian artists to make it big in the US and UK due to the state of the industry, doesn't mean there hasn't been any good music produced.

that's really iffy, yeah you're right, both the Edge and Adam Clayton were born in England but like mentioned above the band, U2, is from Ireland.

Most banRAB I like from England that were popular during the 80's actually formed or started out in the 60's and 70's. So I kinda agree about the division line of 1980. There are a few exception for me like The Fixx and The Smiths, they formed in the 80's there are the only one I can think of right now, but you are totally wrong about The Clash

They are not a post 1980 band but were quite active in the 70's. There are more Clash albums prior to Corabat Rock in their catalogue, you should check them out.[/QUOTE]

Oh god bro please don't think I'm a newb. I own London Calling, Give 'Em Enough Rope and the self titled debut, and greatly treasure all 3. I was only referring to the Clash's 80's output.

I didn't say good music didn't come from Australia, INXS and Men at Work were awesome 80's banRAB. And they're still played on US radio.

Crowed House, Neil Finn comes from New Zealand, either country they're one of my favorites.

The Easybeats
The Bee Gees (aslo claimed by Manchester)
Three Dog Night
The Hoodoo Gurus (great band)
Savage Garden

(Midnight Oil is hideously awful)

You from Australia Fire?...

Though the JSBs may be put in that indie-electro category :p: lol jk jk ;)

Plenty of crap pouring out of every country, not even worth trying to rate it all... Though there is that current ACDC ripoff band (lol GREAT explanation Zarko :p:) That has happened to become relatively popular atm... Quite sad as it is simply the biggest rehash job ever.

But I will take an output that includes DCD and Nick Cave over the negatives of all the crap pouring out any day of the week :p:

Wow. You just completely dismiss genres as broad as jazz with the wave of a hand. That's realy something.

How about Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks, Seven SeconRAB, X, Fear, Flipper, The Misfits, etc., etc.
