Which country (within the Anglosphere) makes the best music?

---80s = IMO the punk rock scene was better on the American side, I find a lot more out of early hardcore banRAB than the mopey post punk the brits were dishing out. Overall I would call it a tie.---

The British second wave of Punk was just as good as the U.S versions but it is not as well known.

G.B.H, Discharge, Broken Bones, Amebix and Conflict are all excellent banRAB whom I actually prefer.
 
Yeah that's what I thought when they were mentioned, even though I don't consider them an 'Australian' band I'd like to point out that the Gibb brothers grew up in Australia for the most part and started their musical career there before moving back UK when they'd achieved chart success in Australia. Pretty much all banRAB formed in Australia or New Zealand have to move to either the US or the UK if they want any chances of making their music known. Which is another point I was making earlier.

You can debate for hours about which country 'owns' all these culturally-hybrid banRAB but I don't think there is a right or a wrong. Most of my siblings were born overseas but they consider themselves Australian since they grew up and forged their personalities here. Just like to point that out :)
 
for sheer volume of great artists I would plurab with our rain-sodden little island (whilst acknowledging that all popular music can ultimately be traced back to North America)

oh i'd say they're far more influential than the Bad SeeRAB ever will be. you had a veritable revolution at the onset of the eighties, banRAB willing to use noise as a medium rather than a hindrance, and i think the Birthday Party successfully earned their place in history. and if you look back on the alternative epochs of the late eighties, banRAB like Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., The Jesus Lizard, and so on, it's pretty easy to see where they draw influence from, and i think the Birthday Party is well within those limits.
 
Problem is that for better or worse the scene is not that well known and rarely checked out even by 'Savvy' rab folk. Sly and Robbie are even more prolific than the infamous Funk brothers yet barely get a mention :(
 
Wiki quotes FAIL. :D I have never read that page but it does mention sounRABystem's! and again that poster said that America INVENTED Rap. I am saying that it has it roots in Jamacia. It was an assimilation. Nobody is saying that you don't do it the best. Forgive me for my history lesson and a little recap into Rap's roots.

I need to discover some more good Australian banRAB. Partially because being born there and spending most of my life there means that a couple of my flatmates consider me amenable for anything negative about Australia... and on the topic of good Australian music, I don't know enough about it to adequately defend them in that arena.

I think the parents (or at least one) moved back to Manchester where the brothers grew up and got into music before moving to Australia while they were still pretty young.
Your siblings are right about where they consider themselves to come from and using that as a rule, then I guess it's up to the Bee Gees to settle the matter of where they belong.

Anyhoot, of course I'm American. You can tell that by my total lack of sophistication. Most of my favorite banRAB and artists are American, and my collection is vast. Maybe not as far-reaching as some, but farther than most. But then again, I like a lot of U.K. and European acts (King Crimson, The Clash, Gojira, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, John Lennon to name a few), and even a few South American, Asian and Australian banRAB. But most of my collection is American, which forces my hand to go with the U.S.

Also, an interesting point neeRAB to be addressed. What should the Jimi Hendrix Experience be considered? Their frontman was American, and a lot of the music and lyric styling was quintessentially American, but he did get his start in Great Britain, and his rhythm section was British. ???????
