which console should I by?

i'm interested in getting a PS3 or an xbox 360 but not both.

i lOVE the wii's gameplay but my lover and i are looking for something more immersive, and since all 3 have good games available and since i'm more of a hardcore gamer than a lazy granny who wants to play virtual fitness games, i want the higher end console.

the reason i'm asking is because i've been a PC gamer for a long long time. for one thing, i grew up without tv. i'm used to a whole different style of gameplay, where first-person shooters are actually precision-controllable but fighting games are absolute crap. i don't know anything about the console games available other than that i want to be able to play gta 4 (which doesn't limit my options).

i've looked up differences between the two and here's what primarily caught my eye.

1. halo 2 (xbox only)
2. blue-ray dvd's (ps3 only)

and slightly slightly higher specs on the ps3.

has anyone got a recommendation?

I say get what your friends have. That's what I did and I'm happy with it (I got a 360). Half of the current game system's fun is logging on at night and blowing 4 of your friends' heads off repeatedly in online play.

There's also a rumored Blu-Ray player for the 360 but as of now it is just that--a rumor.
 
I just bought a PS3 a few weeks back. And I to am a PC gamer, bought a Wii and sold it 6 months later from lack of use.

I was torn in my decision also because the Xbox does have a larger library, but tends to break.

The PS3 has a smaller library but as of this spring the library will be filling with great titles all year, and it is a reliable machine.

I decided if I'm spending that kind of money I'm not going to buy something that tends to break from use. The games I got with it definitely made it the right choice (Warhawk is awesome )

However, most of my friends with consoles own the PS3. And playing games with friends is what makes this generation more fun (IMO) then previous generations of consoles. So if you have a lot of friends with the Xbox maybe you should think about one of them
 
ive been in that delemma and i decided to go with the xbox360. I read somewhere that in the summer the Xbox360 are going to have blu-ray built in them. so im going to wait til then.
 
It isn't going to have it built in, it is going to be an attachment like the HD DVD drive was. And it'll only be used for movies. So you could buy the xbox now and buy the bluray drive later
 
Get what you want ultimaltly. It's fun being able to play with friends, but multiplayer games have a ton of people playing them anyway. Plus OT has a ton of people you can put on your friendslist if you have a PS3. I play GTA4 with some of them
