American Culture? I am reading a book called Crucible and I am little confused of the book. Can you give me page numbers or a good answer to this question. I have to write a whole essay based on this question. This will be a great help. Thank you and have a nice day.
 
witches = anything group you want to blame things on (ie scapegoats)

when miller wrote it witches = communists

today, witches = immigrents, people with aids, democrats, republicans, liberals, conservatives, african americans, rednecks etc etc.

pick one.
 
Well the story itself is a reference to the 1950s McCarthy trails where they would interrogate and convict many people innocently for being communists. Anything that was deemed "communist" would be blacklisted.

In modern society, it could be related to the government arresting and holding suspected terrorists without any evidence.
