gummy bear attack

I got "new" bikes, and the silver color on them is starting to come off and is making them look very old. I thought I would take the opportunity of having a new room and going to the paint store to find paint for my new bike, but I'm not sure which kind I'm supposed to use (obviously not regular wall paint... right?). I want a bright color to make them stand out.
Also, do you have any ideas how many coats I would need or how much it would cost? Thanks for any help, I'll make sure to return the favor
Thanks for all the ideas, but I'm trying to get info on what KIND of paint to use, as in something that is appropriate for the bike material. I've already (sort of) decided on the bike color, which will be either like purple or turquoise or orange or lime green, something bright and happy
