Which channel made the worst change?

I voted for Cartoon Network, just because it's fallen the most. It used to be that I could flip to Cartoon Network any time of day, and something I wanted to watch would be on. Whether it be a Cartoon Cartoon or Toonami. There was always SOMETHING (well I didn't like ALL of the Cartoon Cartoons... but uh... yeah.) Then they got rid of Toonami for Miguzi. That was kinda strange. Then Toonami got rid of all my favourite shows... then the kids programming during the day... then no more Friday night movies... then I pretty much stopped watching everything on Cartoon Network that wasn't part of the "Adult Swim" block.

So uh yeah... out of all of those, I'd say I feel Cartoon Network has lost the most, not because it really sucks now, just because it used to be SO, SO good. (No other channel could ever really claim to be watchable 24/7 for me.)
 
It's hard to choose, but I'll say the Disney Channel. It used to have a nice mix of live-action and cartoons that everybody could enjoy. There was always something interesting on. Nowadays it's all about the TWEENS, their cartoons shipped off to another channel, some of which they don't even air anymore for whatever reason. It makes me feel sad and disappointed.
 
Cartoon Network has made the biggest fall since it's peak. I really seems to have an identity crisis, especially since it's abandoned it's loyalty to cartoons. I wouldn't have much of a problem with this if it wasn't sagging in ratings.

Disney Channel; This one I can sort of understand some animosity against. It's gone through a complete overhaul and all but abandoned animation or classic programming. However, it's really hitting it off with the young female demographic, maintaining a solid position in ratings.

Had this been 2000, I probably would have voted for Nickelodeon due to it's strong devotion to Klasky-Csupo type borderline animated soap-operas. These were sqeaky clean programs, and thus extremely dull. However, lately, it has maintained a dominant spot as a top rated cable company for the sub-18 crowd. Also, it seems to have expanded it's overall demographic slightly. My only complaint is that Nick at Night is now just a shell of it's former self.
 
I'd vote Cartoon Network any day, but after Mrs. Davidson's passing, I said I wouldn't be complaining about CN until Feb 2008.




But Dusney (yes, Dusney, a mix of Dull and Disney put together) Channel for me. From having just Disney shows (classic and newer programming), Vault Disney (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and, yes , ZOOG Disney, to having crap like The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody (Fells like a ripoff of a Nickelodeon show), That's So Raven (from being the cute and bossy Olivia Huxtable on The Cosby Show, to this, Raven Symone wasted her talent on this. Plus she says OH SNAP! all the time. Just say the actual S-Word, then I'll be happy), Cory In The House (Ugh, a stupid spinoff of Raven and a retarded (pardon my French) theme song), Wizards of Oz, Wizards of Boobs, Wizards of Crap....Whatever it is, it's stupid, and in the words of Muffy Crosswire, "Vomitrocious". For Hanna Montana (Seriously, this show can go to Hell for all I care), reminds me of how stupid iCarly is (iDon't get it), and High School Musicrap, (which is arguably the reason of animation decline, because of the success). The cartoons are demoted from primetime, and that's sapathetic (sa-pa-the-tic) (a mix of Sad, And, and Pathetic together).
 
I disagree with what you?ve said; I know you?re very passionate in your defense of Toon Disney, but if the executives want to acquire some other animated programs and have it on their network, that?s their prerogative. Purity is fine and dandy, but denying good animated programs a chance to be on Toon Disney just because they weren?t made by Disney is just foolish.
 
Nicktoons: I don't even have this and it's in my opinion the worst offender. Because whatever flaws Toon Disney and Boomerang have, they at least aren't charging you for a majority of shows that are on network televison.

Though I tend to think if the network had been started later or just been a Nick Games and Toons, it would have worked out better.

Disney Channel: The worst offender. At the moment, the only bearable shows are their reruns and The Emperor's New School. If not for the idea of name familiarity, they would be better of renaming it The Fashion Industry Channel (The FIC).

Cartoon Network: I'll admit has more viewable shows as DIS Channel and as said, at least for the moment they don't have any Fashion Industry shows as I stated in the Disney Forum. But as long as their upcoming animated projects work it could lower the chance for more LA. Unfortunately in my opinion, both Cartoon Network and Adult Swim suffer from being to one note in execution (If it's a kid's show it have to focus on kids, if it's an adult show it's too high in adult content).

To be honest, I'd say Nickelodeon despite some of the high expectations and scheduling flaws succeed for two reasons:

- They didn't have to change their image to achieve their success.
- Their live action show are enjoyable (counting Nick At Nite).
 
What's funny is people think Disney Channel is suppose to show all animation, yet the channel has always been mostly live-action shows since the 80s. Heck, the first successful/popular show it has was a show about kids moonlighting as musical rock stars. So people can't really say they "deviated from their roots"
 
I'm with you on this one, Toon Capone, and for good reason. But i'm going to state what I feel is wrong with every channel metioned.. Let's start off with My Pick, The Disney Channel:

20 years ago when we had Disney Channel start up it was full of variety, a nice blend of Animation and Live action shows, but since the late 1990's and into the first part of the 2000 decade, Disney has slowly and steadily been abandoning it's animation in favor of more live action shows and fewer and fewer Animated series. Plus the fact that they narrowed their demographic so far that they now only cater to 9-14 year olds (Hence My comment about "if you're under 9 you are too young to watch The Disney channel, Same thing if you are over 14. After all what kind of mentality is Disney thinking here? It's like Teens and Tweens drive the shows now, not families.

Then let's move over to Cartoon Network:

Since the 1990's and early into the 21st century, things were good at the Cartoon Network studios. But after Miguzi got into the fray, well things went south and in a hurry. Each time you got interested in a show and got really into it, Here comes the Disney formula in yanking shows off as they are really getting good. I mean 7 years for the PPG, just 2 seasons of Megas XLR, Just 6 seasons of Justice League and their sequal JL Unilmited, and 5 full seasons of Teen Titans, Cartoon Network has hit a major rut.. Out with the old in with the new. Rotate frequently and don't let anyone enjoy a show.. be it on regular day or late night adult swim.. and Toonami now has become a joke with Naruto, One Piece, and even Dragonball (Original,Z,GT). Frankly it's wash repeat rinse.. And don't even get me started on Pokemon...

Then there's Nick:

Now Nick had the right idea, but once they started to go from Animated to Live action it was game over.. Spongebob is so old he needs to die.. Avatar while good, won't even get a good shot at finishing up it's series with a fourth book, and in fact We even won't see Danny Phantom and Sam Manson Kiss again in High School. And the Rugrats Growing up? Bad idea. But then Nickelodeon has picked up on the Disney Formulas.. Wash, rinse, repeat..yank it off before it gets too good.. or run it into the ground until you get sick of it, then replace it with Live action.

As for Boomerang and Toon Disney? Can We say two words, nice and loud: CARTOON GRAVEYARD! Yes folks Toon Disney and Boomerang have gone from good ideas to the death knell of Cartoons..Want to watch Season 1, 2, or 3 of Kim Possible? Or maybe some Talespin or rescue rangers? Go to Toon Disney, Do Not pass go, Do not collect 200 bucks.. As for Boomerang? Can we say, (Let's face it.. Same two words.. Cartoon Graveyard..)

The only slightly redeeming value is maybe Nicktoons and Jetix.. but even they are learning Disney's dirty little secret of "Elimination of what people call "Junk". Oh wait that's right, by 'people' I mean 9 to 14 year olds.. Not us 20, 30, or even 40 somethings..

A somewhat Wise rabroad.net fan once wrote, "if you're too old as in 15, or older, you're not allowed to enjoy cartoons, or anime for that matter. And now, it seems the real horror is setting in. After all Do you folks want to know what my TV Schedule is like now? Less than 2 hours a day watching cartoons.. Less than 2 hours..

20 years ago I had upwards of 4-6 hours a day.. but now? 2 hours at most.. and as time goes on, it will get less and less.

But then I say this to all those 14 year olds watching these channels right now. Wait until you get all Live action, and no animation. I want to hear you whine.. I want to hear you cry.. I want to hear you complain..Oh wait, that's right, when you're 15, you're too old to watch cartoons.. So really you can't whine, cry or complain.. You're too old to do that either.

Frankly I hope that when These companies lose everyone, they'll look back and scratch their heads as to why they messed up. the answer is simple.. Narrow Demographics, Coupled with Shows aimed at 9-14 year olds who hate animation.. Then let's see any of these companies get me to come back.. the only way? Put more animated series on, Widen the spectrum, and don't say that Cartoons are just for 2-8 year olds.. cause to be honest? Cartoons are for everyone. Not just a select few.. After all when 2012 rolls around, will there be any GOOD animation left? Only in our dreams and on DVD's..

But until then? The door has closed to anyone over 15..so then why is it that adults are watching cartoons now more than ever? The answer is simple.. they can't put up with the Cow dung All these channels are showing.. after all we're too old to watch cartoons.. and this is coming from a 45 year old kid. Oh wait, I'm supposed to grow up.. alright then why Am I even posting this comment? Probably to let the younger folks know.. that if you turn 15, turn off the TV, the party's over..

Yeah, but at least both shows are available on DVD. Whether Disney will actually release ALL the episodes is anyone's guess. But at least we have the entire first season of Ducktales, for those that aren't so fond of the Gizmoduck and Bubba episodes.

Why Goof Troop and Quack Pack - which both feature classic characters known the world over - aren't available on DVD sets is beyond me.
 
I agree. From what I can tell, Disney does really lack variety in their program. Some of their live-action programs from the late 90s weren't too bad and I thought that they were watchable. They use to have a more well-balanced schedule, but they went in favor of more tween shows. Oh well. I usually watch the Disney channel if there's nothing else on or they actually have a watchable movie on.



I didn't think that CN went down hill with Miguzi. At least not right away. I thought that it had good programs up untill late 2005 or somewhere around 2006. That's when I would only watch Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and skip everything else on the block. While I agree with what you're saying about the wash repeat rinse cycle with their shows, I dont' think that they overplay Pokemon nearly as much as other shows like Camp Lazlo or Foster's Home. It does have two slots Monday through Friday, but I thought that their other shows get repeated far more than that. Pokemon has had some mini-marathons, not to mention that huge three day marathon, but those were either special occassions for the three-day marathon and the smaller ones were just weekly. Besides, the smaller marathons were probably because of how well the huge three day marathon did in terms of ratings.



Well, Gryph already mentioned this, but Nick hasn't really gone against their roots as a station. They've been doing live-action programs since the channel began. They didn't even have cartoons until the early 90s with shows like Doug and Rugrats. Still, they do have a problem with showing the same shows over and over again. In other words, they also need more variety in their shows.

Isn't Avatar finishing up the series with Book three? I don't think that's Nick's fault, especially when the creators had planned for the series to be a triology from the beginning. While I would have loved to see more Danny Phatom, I'm basically satified with the series finale. As for All Grown Up, while it was a bad idea, I didn't think it was that bad. I was tired of baby rugrats anyway. I did find it annoying how they acted like high school kids while barely into middle school.
 
Do you remember in 1999 GSN (then Game Show Network) aired the animated game show that was a video game interactive called "Throut and Neck"?

Even reruns of 1980's Press Your Luck and 2002-2003 Whammy! both airing on GSN feature Whammy animation!
 
If only Cartoon Network/Boomerang got back the rights to Warner Bros. 1990's cartoons Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Freakazoid, Pinky and the Brain, Taz-Mania, and Histeria! to air on these said channels!
 
Just because a game show features animated segments doesn't mean it qualifies as an animated show. If that were the case, one could say that Hee Haw and Laugh-In were animated shows since they also featured tidbits of animation.

And GSN stands for Game Show Network. It's not a new name or a new format; they just shortened their moniker to an acronym.



CN isn't really interested in doing the retro thing now; those shows would be a better fit for Boomerang than the current CN, IMO.

Also, A! and P&tB are already on DVD, and TT and F! are coming to DVD next year, so one could just as easily purchase the DVDs of those respective shows instead of pining away for them to start re-airing on basic cable.
 
Cartoon Network for me, because I feel that it has become a hollow shell of it's former self.
If Cartoon Network could have a tag line to describe itself now,
this would be it.
"Our name implies that we show cartoons, but make sure you don't miss Re Animated and Goosebumps."
 
I guess it would go under "Other", but my pick is Family Channel in Canada. Too much crap, not enough old-school Disney cartoons or Power Rangers eps. I have to resort to YouTube for the latter.
 
If you have to resort to picking and skimming to win debates or disagreements, you should just stay out of these threads.



First, I didn't say that they're suppose to be all animation. And the whole rockstar thing wasn't used all of the time was it?

Second, Would it kill them to have one of their sitcom to be different in tone. Something like The Famous Jett Jackson or The Jersey.

Third, If you were actually reading thoroughly, you'd see that I made a positive comment about Nick's live action shows, so you comment is invalid in this case.
