Which car is generally better the Nissan Altima or the Mazda 6?

I'm looking to buy one of those cars and was wondering which one is much better in terms of Price, Gas consumption, and safety?
Are they both automatic with the most basic packages?
 
I've have read up about the altima for a while and generally find it better than allot of other sedans out there.Safety for the altima: 2006 and under isn't safe if hit by the side(without optional air bags).07 and up is safe. Fuel economy is great

IMPERIAL:45 mpg /hwy
Us: 32 mpg / hwy

The price: In the states it starts at 19,900 and in canada it starts at 23,198.

Mazda 6

Safety:
2006 and down is not safe hit by the side(without optional side airbags.
Everything else is good.

Fuel economy
IMPERIAL:30 mpg/hwy
us:22 to 25 mpg/hwy

Price:
canada: 22,995
us:19,300

Personally i would go with the altima. I find it's a better looking car. Not the the mazda isn't nice , it is.
Oh and yes , automatic is availible with a package no to expensive.
I think you will have better luck with the altima:)
