Which bike would you get?

Going on design, pedigree and pure sex I'd say the MV. Going by best bang for the buck and over all hardware I'd say BMW but I'd have to ride them both before i made a choice.

Both are great bikes. The fit and finish on the MV is better than on the BMW. The BMW is a bit faster, but unless you're Casey Stoner, you're not gonna utilize the full potential of either bike.

Ultimately, it's gonna boil down to your personal taste. Do you prefer German or Italian styling? Do you prefer German or Italian engineering? They're both good, in very different ways. Since I already own an F4, I'd buy the BMW before I bought a second MV, but if I didn't already have an F4, there's no way I'd buy the BMW first.

Would you buy a Porsche before you bought a Lamborghini?

I saw a show on TV about the assembly/manufacturing process for the Lambo. It turns out, there's no real usable rear view when seated in the Lambo, so in order to back up, the factory guys open the driver's side gull wing and sit on the door frame, looking backward so they can see where they're going. It occured to me, from this position, the pilot could easily get a knee down!

Of course, the Porsche has a panoramic rear view from the cockpit, so there's no need to open the door and sit on the door frame.

And that, my friends, is the difference between German and Italian engineering. The German car is designed with a panoramic view when backing up; the Italians, on the other hand, thought it more important to concentrate on what you see when you're moving forward at 150mph.

And that's why I'd rather have the MV over the BMW.

wow, I thought you were going off topic but no, you pulled it around to make your point. that was just impressive.

this is just the beginning!

for me? my road bikes are about total ownership value and not outright performance. i leave that to my track bikes.

total ownership value for me is partly about pride. whether i'll get up a 4 am to go out to the garage just to look at the bike. its about whether old or young people will come over and have a chat and compliment my bike - whether they are motorcyclists or not. i'll admit it...i'm vain, i like to recognize i have taste.

of course the bikes gotta perform but how much can (should) you use on the road? its gotta be reliable - but i do like "character" and am happy to live with eccentricities

its not about women. i have a beautiful one and need no other. and besides chicks dig harleys, apparently - WTF?

this is a no brainer for me - 'gusta all the way

I feel the same way. It's not just about performance, esthetics plays a role. And I gotta say, nothing turns heads like the F4. It's amazing! I mean, people will come over and have a look at the 1098 or the Paso, but the F4 is in a league by itself. Everytime I bring it out, a crowd forms around it!

That's not gonna happen with the RR. In fact, the RR looks like it was hit with the ugly stick. So if esthetics is a consideration, the BMW loses.

totally agree. i ride with a 1078rr, a tamburini, an rsv4 factory and a number of ducs. the red bikes and the ape hardly get a second glance when the 'gusta's roll in

and to be fair these bikes aren't all show and no go...they get ridden how they should. the tambo runs in the new zealand 1000cc production speed record. its ridden by a tiny women who has to sit on tail for part of the run to get better traction. it is a sight to behold

Well said. With the performance exhaust system, air cleaner, and ECU package, my F4 dynoed at 165rwhp. That's a whole lot of get-up-and-go. And the F4 handles superbly. In fact, even though it's 40lbs heavier than my 1098s, I prefer the handling of my F4 to the 1098s.

I'm doing 13 CSS days this year. Six of those days will be on one of Code's brand new BMW 1000RRs. I'm looking forward to comparing it. Everybody who's ridden the new BMW raves about it, looks notwithstanding.

Get the MV, I've ridden the new BMW and you don't have to push it very hard to realize how Awesome that thing is, it does everything great and nothing wrong, and if I never had to look at it, I'd trade in my Ducati for it, but you do, have to look at it, and it's plain and simply, Ugly.
All of these bikes are Excellent performance wise so styling can be the deciding factor.
