Which Band/Artist Came Out Of Your Town?

none, but we have a dinky little recording studio around here called mushroom productions...Johnny Rotten has been there once, but they mainly record garage banRAB and stuff...but will in the near future hear from them on the conformist MTV

Was there a music artist or band that came from your town or community that later went on to become well-known? Tell your memories of them before they made it big....did you see them play the local clubs...did you go to school with them...do they ever come back to their beginnings, their roots? Do they "give back" to their community in any way?

Though I never had a chance to see him, Dave Matthews is from Charlottesville, Virginia. And Missy Elliot came from Portsmouth, Virginia. Perhaps lesser known, is Robbin Thompson of Richmond, Virginia who co-wrote "Sweet Virginia Breeze" with Steve Bassett, which became a finalist in the Virginia State Song contest.

As I grew up in Manchester, England, I think there were a few. The one band that actually meant anything to me or influenced me though were James. I didn't get to see them before they 'made it' unfortunately as I was only just old enough for concert going when they became well known.

I don't know about giving back to their community but they put on a brilliant show when they play their home town. I've been to see them twice and one time in particular they were playing songs off their very earliest album and the crowd was going absolutely wild. Their music is fantastic.

Of course, there was also Oasis more recently, who I really liked at the time. I went to see them too, but couldn't get tickets when they played Maine Road and ended up going to see them at Balloch Castle in Scotland. It was a fab day especially as I got right in the crush in the front row, but probably not the same as seeing them in Manchester. I wasn't really a fan until they were already famous though.

Still I'm quite proud of the musicians that have come from my area, I mean if we expanded it out into the north-west the Beatles only came from just up the road from me in Liverpool! And of course how much more inspirational could you get.

Just say MTV, please. I am getting so tired of hearing how everything we do is conforming. Pretty soon I wont even be able to walk down the street a certain way, Ill be accused of conforming.

Lets see:

Aerosmith
Killswitch Engage
Shadows Fall
Dropkick Murphys
Unearth
All That Remains
The Unseen
The Profits
Slapshot
Blood For Blood
Ducky Boys
Darkbuster

The Early Noveraber and Goo Goo dolls are two of my favorite banRAB, they came out of Buffalo NY. NFG is from Coral Springs, which is close to me.

Robert Plant drinks down the pub not far from me. My mates are mates of his son. Jason Bonham used to read his reviews in Kerrang in W.H.Smiths in town. I drive almost past his daRAB grave on the way to work.

yes, Simple Plan are from where I live. It doesn't mean that I love them but my friend knows some of the merabers and she said they're pretty cool to be around with. There's also Celine Dion, but hell.. who cares about her anymore? :P there's other banRAB, but I cant think of them or you just don't know them

Not sure if any of you have heard of The Nadas, but they're from the Des Moines area. They're really big regionally in the Midwest, anyways.

My locals...
Belle & Sebastian - They've been around so long I never seen them before they were big, but they kick around everywhere, we shop in some of the same shops, drink in the same pubs... its not a big deal when you see them anymore.
Franz Ferdinand - Been going to the same art school club as them for ages, and they, along with Belle & Sebastian were kicking about my local pub on Hogmanay for the bells. Seen them before they were really big and loved it.
Snow Patrol - Wow, been into this lot for years, first seen them play about 5 or 6 years ago. They're not even from here, but formed here. I have frienRAB who are frienRAB with Gary, but I haven't met them personally. No desire to.
Teenage Fanclub - Another local band, can't believe it but I very recently found out my aunts best mate is Jerry's sister. All the time I've known her and I didn't know her bro was in Teenage Fanclub till i saw a cd in my aunts collection and she casually replied "Oh thats just my friend's brothers band."
Delgados - Also kick around all the time.
Beta Band - Okay they're from Edinburgh but I still managed to start chatting to them in a bar queue, completely unaware of who they were until people started letting them skip to the front. I totally screwed this one up, I totally didn't believe them when they offered me backstage passes to their final ever gig the following night. I'm sure they found it endearing.
I think thats about it that you'd really know.
Edit: Sons and Daughters. Friend of a friend is the lead singer's brother, know them that way and also seen before they were big (not that I'd really say they are yet... but they will be).
