Which Alltel/Verizon PDA/Smartphone should I get?

To start off with some guidelines: I only have to chose from Alltel or Verizon in my area and I don't want any type of Blackberry (I am a network admin and have to deal with these phones all the time and I don't like them). I tried out the Motorola Q at my local Verizon store, it's too thin and too wide, didn't like it. I don't have to have a camera or GPS or Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. I don't have a Bluetooth headset and don't plan on buying one. I don't care what OS it runs, as long as it isn't a Blackberry. I've looked at Alltel's offerings, which is pretty sorry and the only one that I would consider getting is the 6700 from either Alltel or Verizon. I have small hands so a tiny keyboard wouldnt' bother me. I currently have a Treo 650, which is a work phone, that I will have to return in a couple weeks, and it works ok, but I want to try something new.

Is there any other type of PDA/Smartphone that I can use with Alltel or Verizon that is not on their phone webpages? Any suggestions?

I would first try to select a carrier without regard to the phone and then choose the best phone from that carrier. Phone coolness is nice, but what good is a cool phone if you can't use it.

I would recommend going with Alltel because they generally do a really good job as far as coverage goes, I'm not sure where you are but they do better than Verizon coverage-wise where I'm from. Plus, Verizon's data rates are very expensive compared to anybody else and so are their voice plans in comparison to Alltel. I just think Alltel does a nice job in regards to their coverage and price structure, especially if you're thinking about a pda. Alltel also allows data roaming on Sprint or Verizon while Verizon will not data roam on Sprint if you are ever in that situation.

If you don't want a Q or a BB, the 6700 is a nice phone and I like the way they look and feel. I have a friend with that phone and he swears he's going to buy another one for when his wears out so that he never has to switch phones. That would be a great option though and they are really durable. I've heard some really good things about that phone. The Treo700 is suppose to be coming to Alltel soon but I'm not sure if you have that long to wait if you have to return the 650 in a couple of weeks and it really isn't much different than the 700 to be honest. It just looks cooler and probably not what you want if you're looking for a change. I would go with the 6700 because from what I hear it does a really good job in addition to having a nice look and feel.

I have a tendency to go with Alltel also, but I wasn't sure if any other unlocked PDA/Smartphones are supported by Alltel/Verizon's network. I guess if I go with Alltel, I don't have much of a choice, if I don't want a Treo or Blackberry.

No other choice that I know of. I think Sprint offers a Samsung, but I don't think Alltel or Verizon will activate a phone that they don't even offer, because of network problems or something?? I do wish I had better news for you but I do hear Alltel is about to release the Q, treo700, and a new BB in the next few months but I know how you feel about all of those.

Maybe somebody else can chime in with better news??

edit: But try not to get too down on the 6700. As i said in my other post, I've heard that it is a really good phone and not as buggy as others.
