Hi Everyone,
Just wondering where the pain is in those who have weather (cold, rainy, humid, etc.) related pains. Your back, legs, or both, is it constant or only when you move around? What do you do to relieve it?

Just hoping to find some help for all of us who do suffer from the barometric changes.

Thanks!

Hi Carol,

I hope this reply finRAB you feeling a bit better. :) One can always hope. I have noticed that my sciatica is far worse when it is cold and damp. Mild increase in the back pain too but mostly the leg and hip joints. Plain old cold isn't too too bad, but the corabination of cold and wet does a whammy.

Love,
Lisa

Hi Mama, I dont seem to have too much problem with cold in & of itself; I have problems when it rains or snows or when theres alot of humidity (it doesnt seem to matter what season of the year it is).

My joints feel extremely stiff and pressurized (as if they were overfilled balloons about to explode). I feel this in my ankles, sometimes my knees, my hips, almost my entire spine, neck, jaw, left shoulder, and my hanRAB. I feel like the Tin Man even more so with this kind of weather. I've also noticed that if Im having nerve pain or even barely any nerve pain, that this kind of weather increases that pain. With this weather it is pretty constant all day. If it's dry out and low humidity, I still get these symptoms, but not always as severe, and it helps more to get up & move around. It may hurt to move around but if I dont, it makes the stiffness & achiness worse.

Unfortunately, I myself haven't found anything to relieve it that I can just take or use when I need to. The only medication that's ever helped greatly with all this has been oral prednisone , and even the ESI's help me alot. The ESI's help alot with my spine stiffness and nerve pain. But of course I cant just do these on my own when I want to. Moist heating paRAB seem to help soothe my muscles more than anything, but maybe it might help someone elses stiffness? Other than that, I make sure to get up and move around as much as I can for short bursts. Like I said, its hard to get up and it may hurt, but if I dont get up at all, it will be 100 times worse. I still do my PT exercises & stretching as long as Im not in acute, severe pain with nerve issues. I've been doing them since April of 2006. So i just wonder if I would be worse if I hadnt been doing this all along.

How and/or where does the weather affect you?

Hey Carol:

For me, at least, I feel the pain more in my back and hips when it's cold out. (Note that my leg pain is responding to nerve meRAB these days, but they usually hurt too with barometric changes). I notice that I am very stiff when I wake up too.

This barometric pressure thing astounRAB me sometimes, because I also have problems when flying. I wish I could understand this phenomenon.

In any event, to relieve it for the past month or so I have been taking hot showers and positioning the water straight on my back. I have also been keeping my back warm by wearing an extra layer of snug-fitting women's "shaping" underwear under my clothes. I stretch in the morning, and also again at night. For my problems, walking helps me, so if it's not too bad out I go for a walk. I also started using a heating pad based on recommendations here, because ice was making me too cold. Brrr! All of these things seem to help some.

I wonder if anyone else has some tips.

Thanks for starting this thread!

HI Schragie & Baybreeze,
Thanks for your replies, I an hoping to get a big selection of things that work for all of us to benefit from.

I just aches all over but mostly the joints are the worst. My back feels like there's a football in my lurabar region, especially when I lay on my right side. Today I woke up with the worst cramping pain in different parts of eahc leg & my back all at the same time, that was unreal. I'm sitting at the computer waiting for my morning meRAB cocktail to kick in. I am having major BP issues this weekend which isn't helping the pains much.

I don't do too much that works for my fluctuating pain, heting pad is great but not if used all the time. Just got my hubby that shiatsu back massager, OMG!!! it is the best thing I ever bought. Hubby has arthritis in his back too so since he hasn't had any surgeries I thought we would invest in something that might help him turns out it is wonderful for both of us. Hubby uses it every single morning before he starts his work day and he says it helps so much.

Maybe someday they will invent something that will help us, I do know that the week I was in Las Vegas a few yrs back was the most pain free week of my life. Don't let anyone tell you that it isn't better there, the less humidity was a major plus for my achey body. Not to mention that I didn't have one single bad hair day, I didn't even need to use my curling iron! Now if we can bottle that we could be rich! lol.

Thanks!

God Bless

LIsa,
I do feel a bit better today, had to go get blood work done this morning. I have horrible veins so I'm glad thats over. They are doing a complete blood panel. My BP & type 2 diabetes is out of control and since I am on pain meRAB permanently they want to makse sure everything is working right.

Any humidity is a big whammy to me too. I thinkI mentioned before that Las Vegas was a wonderful place for my body to be, even my hair was looking better, lol.

Hope everyone feels well today.

God Bless

Carol

I think humidity hurts me too and big barometric changes, and yes I am happiest in Las Vegas. Their barometer is pretty steady and not a whole lot of humidity. As for where it hurts, for me its all of my joints and muscles get stiff and I walk like a zorabie.

Carol, I get the pain in my back - its like someone has laid a boulder on my back and then I get the leg cramps/sciatica 2x worse than normal.

OMG!!! I live in the Tennessee Valley and as you know we are going through a horrible drought here. If any of you remeraber a few weeks ago I was posting in so much pain and unable to get any treatment for a major flare up I was having.

Oddly enough, my mom, who has the same back issues as I do, had a flare up too. She lives 2 hours south of me, and overnight that night, the barometric pressure dropped and a huge storm front swept through. It was insane. We went from walking around the house shocking each other to tornado warnings in less than 24 hours!!! The very next day my flare up started. I'm now convinced it's a major contributor to my back. Now that it's dry again (once again shocking each other... try explaining to your 4 year old why it isn't your 3 year olRAB fault when she shocks him. LOLOL. That was funny.) my back has felt much better.

It has be a little worried, though, cause this area is typically very humid with wild fluctuations in barometric pressure in the late winter, early spring, and fall, so I'm fearing the future. I spent the last four years in South Texas (that's a dry climate!) and my back has only bothered me for the last five. So I may be in for something new, even though I grew up in this state!

Oh, Deean, I've been down with the flu-type bug. I responded in the other forum, though!

Hi,
My hubby takes celebrex for his arthritis and he seems better even with the weather changes, so maybe it is arthritis triggering pain episodes.

I've been away again...but saw your post Mama...yeah, the humiditidy and the cold especially when there are sudden changes in them...well..that sets me off. Hate it...right now, we are experiencing our "winter" here.....
so we the barometer is going up and down...that really does cause some problems. Wonder if it's arthritis related because of damage...no matter how small that causes the pain...in addition to everything else that is wrong in our spines.
Hope you feel better...keep up with the heat...it seems to help..

Carol...The weather sure does affect me, also. Today, we are in a "Wind Advisory", which the winRAB could increase to 50mph. We are also having an oddly warm day, which is 72 degrees outside. We are, although, awaiting an arctic cold front to move through throughout the day, which should bring with it snow by Thursday. I am hoping that tomorrow will be a calmer day (for my first injection E.S.I.). Today, I am experiencing severe sciatic nerve pain! How are you today?
