Mel, I go to the Colurabia Orthopedic Group. For my first injury I saw Dr. Miles. I was not real happy with him. I was still having alot of pain when he released me back to work. Actually he released me but recommended that I not do that job anymore. My Attorney really got a kick out of that one.
I am now seeing Dr. Abernathie. So far I am happy with him. He seems to be up on the latest stuff.
Dr. Gaines has more of the old school type of approch. I saw him in the emergency room before workers comp switched me to Abernathie. Gaines put me in a brace that restricted all movement and instructed me to wear it 24-7. I was allowed to go from the bed to a chair and that was it. A week later Dr. Abernathie put me in a jewet(sp?) brace and started me on physical therepy. When I questioned Dr Abernathie about the difference in treatment he told me that Gaines thinks that movement restriction is important and that he uses technics that Abernathie says are out dated.
When you set up your appointment try to get an early one because they usually run behind sch. and the wait gets longer as the day goes on.
Good luck in your move.

Tirza, would you believe I grew up in colurabia and we are moving back there Tuesday? I graduated HS in 1996 I like Colurabia but mostly b/c I am just comfortable with it. I have heard the weather has been so mild for the past two years compared to the norm. We'll stay there long enough for me to graduate LPN school and hubby to get his masters then maybe move on. We'll see though! Sorry you don't care for it that much-gotta grow up there I think....
Mel, I guess Mo. probably isn't that bad. It's just that I have had 2 back injuries while living here and I haven't been able to get out much.
Do you have a doctor in mind when you get here? I have found that Peak is probably one of the best for physical therapy.

I grew up west of Binghamton,N.Y. in the little town of Owego. My family is still there but I haven't lived there in 30 years. Right now my husband and I live in Colurabia, Mo. We don't like it but it's where we have to be for awhile. When Mel said that it gets to be 100% humidity without rain he was not kidding.
I was in a truck accident 12/13/04. I have compression fractures of my t5,t6 and t9. My t9 also has a crack through it. I see the doctor again on March 8. He said that we would talk about fusion, plate with screws and a roRAB then.
Hi, your comment about finding another job made me chuckle...one of my early surgeons suggested the same thing. I am in the military and he said "oh, you will have to find a new job". Another doc said the same thing! I don't think they understand what they say, and how that turns off the patient.
Diann, I lived in Michigan almost 7 years ago. I lived in Owosso growing up, then Lansing for about 18 years and then Canton (Detroit suburb) for about 3 years.
I know what you're saying about not being able to get out with it so cold and the weather so nasty. Are you close to a mall? Could you walk in the mall until it gets nice out? Always seem like a good idea (if you don't get distracted and start shopping HA).
