Where's did the $1 go in this Riddle.?

3 friends stayed over at a motel on their road trip. The room rate was $30, and they split the bill. So each pays $10 evenly. They handed to the manager at the counter and went to their room. In a few short hours, the manager forgot that there was a special discount of $5 which makes the room only $25 for the day. So he asked his assistant to bring the $5 change back to the 3 guys. On the way to the room, the assistant wondered how to split $5 into 3 people evenly. He decided to just hand them back $1 each ($3 back to the 3 friends) and keep $2 to himself as tips. So he handed them the $3 back, and they were pretty satisifed. Each of them received $1 back. So they ended up paying $9 each instead of $10. The assistant secretly kept $2 for himself. Who kept the extra $1? If you add it up. Each of them paid $9 + $9 + $9 = $27 and the assistant took $2 which makes the total of $29. Where's that $1 originally from the $30 they paid up front?

they didn't lose out on $1 each... they lost out on $2/3 because there were three of them meaning there was no last $1 because this shows they each paid $9 and 2/3
so....
$9 2/3 + $9 2/3 + $9 2/3 = $28 and the assistant kept the last two...
proving there was no last $
