where would I find the engine identification number on a jeep wrangler with a 6

cyl.motor? I just purchased 1988 Jeep Wrangler and I am not sure if it has the original engine in it and also, it is supposed to have a new starter on it but the starter does not sound right and I was wondering if it was the right starter for that engine.
