Where would Disney be without Pixar ?

Throughout this new milleniem nearly all Disney's most successful animated films were all made by Pixar. Disney only distributed them etc.

So my question is - Where the hell would Disney be without Pixar on their side?

My answer would be lost ! Not since the Lion King have Disney made and produced any animated film that is worth seeing or worth being critical about. All Disney have done since then is re-produce what they done before and make poor quality sequals to classics such as the Jungle book and the Lion King etc. And the fact that these sequals were produced straight to video proves that they werent worth watching.

Its seems to me that Disney have somehow run out of original ideas and are recycling old storys etc. Its kinda sad really because i remember when i was a kid and Disney movies were the best thing ever (Well to me they were anyways:rolleyes: expect Aladin which i hated).

But i'm happy though Disney aint getting all the credit for what Pixar have done since films like the toy story movies and finding Nemo etc are actually Pixar movies and not Disney. If i am not mistaken Disney only co-finance and distribute the films due to a contract Pixar and Disney signed years ago that says all Pixar films will be distributed by Disney only.

Dont get me wrong everyone i think Disney are fantastic, if it wasnt for them then we wouldnt of have any animation on the big screen at all. But it seems to me that they have lost touch a bit throughtout the years and are relying heavily on Pixar and its live action firm. Or maybe Disney are just taking the back seat on the creative front now and are just concerntrating on distributing movies and cartoons.

Ah well as long as Pixar can still produce the quality then i think we'll all be happy anyways:)

i dont really know-i know that a lot of people like it-it must have been popular enough to warrant a sequal and a spin off series :)
i think its the biggest "strictly disney" success they've had for a while.......

Yeh just searched the internet and it took $35 million at the boxoffice and was a "moderate" success and gained critical claim!

But honestly one movie?......just one while Pixar created around 5 in the last couple of years?

Not that impressive for once a huge animation company

you gotta ask yourself though, would the films get the same type of recognition if they wernt marketed with Disney all over them? :)

no its not THAT impressive and lilo and stitch was the first "Disney" cartoon i've wanted to see in a while ,but it also doesnt mean that they are nowhere without pixar and its an indication of what they are capable of when they get back to basics

But why has it taken them so long to get back to basics and produced a good film (not in my opinion)?

All they have been doing in my eyes is reaping the benifits of Pixars films and merchandise.

Now Dreamworks is catching up with Disney perhaps its time for them to wake up maybe?

I'm sure sales of the Lion King DVD will have helped somewhat!

Pixar are a fantastic company, and a rare thing in the movie business where they actually have a flawless record with regard to movies. Let's hope this continues with next year's The Incredibles.

Disney are really starting to suck now. They have completly run out of ideas..forcing them to make all these rubbish straight to video sequels.Without pixar..disney would be dead.

I am a great fan of Pixar movies and agree that Disney has made a good move having them within their group. The last 'pure' Disney movie I liked was 'Treasure Planet' which gave the old story a new slant, but this year's best movie produced by Disney's group has to be 'Pirates of the Caribbean'; whoever cast Johnny Depp was a genious.

It most be difficult to produce original stories for animated films after all their years in the business. I think the majority of their works are based on existing books.

I think that an animated movie "From PIXAR - Makers Of Toy Story and Finding Nemo..." carries far more attraction than the same release with a Disney badge on it.

These days, when they advertise a "Disney DVD", I get the feeling that it's somebody else's hard work under the Disney label. Disney were very good at one time, now they're just good. Other studios do much better with certain things.

Pixar could do very well on their own, but Pixar get the best end of the stick really as Disney gives them 'X' amount of money and a little from merchandise and they can go away and think up some new fab films. Whilst this leaves Disney with all the advertising, production of merchandise, promotions etc etc etc and this foots a big bill. I wouldn't be surprised if Pixar actually earned more money overall!!

At the end of the day they seem to be quite happy with the partnership and to be honest I will always look at Disney Pixar films as just 'Pixar'!!

lala, I 100% agree with you on this sunject! The last decent Disney animated film I saw was the Lion King which I got on DVD last week. Lilo and Stitch was PANTS! The only way disney make their money is by reproducing old movies in DVD, linking up to Pixar to make great movies, Making us Brits spend loaRAB in Florida and Paris in their hotels and Charging $7 at the Disneyworld car parks!
