Where to start with my Art Folio?

Okay, so I enrolled in art in college, thinking it would be cool to do something I enjoy and get marks for it, but little did I know what would be involved.

See, I have lots of ideas and I usually don't stick to the same thing for long- I'll do a pen and ink, then a collage, a bit of performance art- everything different.

So for this subject, I have to have a clear 'Concept' of what I'm doing this year. Some sort of umbrella that all my artwork has to be under.

At first, I decided to do performance art, you know, walking around in a bag, dressing people up weirdly and sending them around town, but with all my other subjects, it just wasn't working.

So now I have to choose something new! But I don't know what! I'm not motivated by any political/spiritual/enviromental thing, I'm just interested in beauty and shapes, and lines, and colour.
Basically anything visually pleasing =P

I had a look at Paul Klee and Mondrian, that kind of stuff, but I realy don't kno what else to do =P

I'm interested in becoming one of those people who do set design or design advertisements. That kind of thing. Any ideas?

Thanks for wading through this =)

being interested in form and shape, the twirl of a line etc is just as valid as wanting to do art about other things. many artists focus on form and shape etc. build your folio around that. from that you can expand to everything you normally do.

It sounds like you have a very creative mind!

Maybe you should look at more installation or sculpture type ideas... research some artists that do installation works and see if you come across any ideas that appeal to you or something you could work from.

One idea could be to take some of Mondrian's ideas from his works on canvas and turning them into something a bit more physical to play with the idea of form and colour i.e. copying one of Mondrian's 'composition' paintings and recreating it as stitch work or knitted threads on canvas to play with the idea of form, shapes, line colour etc.
