Where to get this bolt?

I did a dumb thing. I lost a mounting button head bolt that is used to attach the Billet Sideplate of a sissy bar. The bolt has a 5mm hex for fastening and is an M8-1.5 X 75mm. Would anyone know where I could purchase one? I bought the sissy bar on Ebay.

Thanks for any suggestion.

Canada :P

i assume it's either stainless or chrome, right? is it a cap screw or does it have a round head?

cap screw:

round-head screw:

It is chrome round head with a 5mm hex. It is the screw that goes into the side of the fender that holds the left/or right bracket in place that will support the back rest.

lemme know if you can't find one. up here in canada, i can probably find this (and most metric hardware) easily tomorrow and mail it to ya in an envelope.

Greg, I have been looking on line most of the evening and don't see anyway to get the bolt. If you get a chance it is listed as' M8 1.5X75mm Button head bolt. It is in chrome and is driven by a 5mm hex drive. It looks like the stock fender bolts on the C50 except the head is a little smaller. Thanks for looking.

ya, no problem. sounds like a standard thread pitch for an M8 bolt (and the drive is about right too). i'll hit a store or two tomorrow and very likely score one for ya. might be a hair longer or shorter. if i can't find the hex drive, you ok with philips? in that case, i could likely score a set of 4 to match them up.

you know, i just realized that M8 is nearly the exact same as a 5/16, but are you sure it's a 1.5 thread pitch? i think the standard M8's are 1.25 and 1.00

an M8x1.25 would be nearly the same as 5/16-20
an M8x1.00 would be nearly the same as 5/16-24

depending on how much thread actually engages, you MIGHT be able to get away with the SAE (inch) sizes

Greg, I am sure about the pitch. The problem with substituting is that the front bolt on the rear fenders have the nut attached inside the fender so, you cannot substitute a different nut or fastener. Due to the weight against the sissy bar I would be afraid of changing or stripping the thread.

Thanks.

Dave

I'm waiting delivery of 2 machine screws from the dealer right now. Freaking things cost me nearly 4 bucks too.

They're the two back screws which hold down the tail light assembly...the ones everyone keeps losing on the M50.

I had been replacing them with ones from some battery terminals from some other machines I have. I figure once I get the right ones in there, then I can get some lock tight. Freaking things!

ok, i'll be heading out soon anyways so i'll find out if an M8x1.5 is a variant or if suzuki made a custom bolt for it. one nice thing about canada is that metric hardware is quite easy to find.

dave - i think that in the SAE / Metric thread world, there are two thread sizes that are just about interchangeable. the rest are just far enough off that they'd be tough to get going even on a standard nut, let alone a fully threaded hole. not sure if M8 is one of them, though, but i'm sure there's a table somewhere that compares...

anyhoo, i'll let ya know what i can score here.

dave - i called the local hardware specialist to double-check on my suspicions, and it turns out that there's no such thing as M8x1.5, so unless suzuki got crazy and got a custom bolt made.... can you measure it again??? or let me know where you got the bolt info.

The info is on the installation directions (parts list).

could be a typo. i can swing to the local store and get one of each of the standard M8's for you to try and mail it out to ya. i've got excess stamps, so PM me your address. worst case, you end up with two spare bolts.
