Where should I take my car to be fixed?

I have a 1997 Ford Taurus that the check engine light came on. I want to sell it but that makes it hard. I tried the gas cap. I tried to check the oxygen sensors, but could not get to the two rear ones.
My question is, should I take it to the corner gas station that fixes cars, or the local car repair place, or should I take it to the Ford Dealer? Does it really matter? Do they all have the same good enough diagnostic machine? Will there be a big difference in price?
Remember I want to sell or trade in the car for a newer one.
Thanks
