i am going to be putting in a 1200 watt rms stereo system and i am going to need to upgrade the alternator. I found this one http://storesense1.mysuperpageshosting.com/HS13162/Detail.bok?no=521&sfs=159d6809
but $180 seems pretty cheap for 170 amp alternator. so this is my main question, is there anything i should be aware of when buying a high output alternator? and why are some like $800 and some less then $200?

Unless you are going to play your stereo at wreck your hearing levels all the time its unlikely you need a bigger alternator.

most likely the stock alternator will suffice for 1200 watts. it's the amp draw is what you need to know. as long as you have a pretty good battery that is rated higher than stock and passes a load test, and are running a capacitor you should be fine w/your stock alternator.
