I'm on prilosec once daily and I get this dull crampy feeling at the base of my esophagus (center of my chest) quite often - it doesn't hurt to eat or hurt after I eat, mostly when I haven't eaten for a while? I have had bloodwork, barium swallow and upper abdomenal u/s which were normal but I'm scared that I have esophageal cancer and petrified of a scope. Pain has been off and on for 5 months now, will go away for days at a time. Aloe vera juice helped - the pain went away for a week after I drank that stuff for 2 weeks but it's expensive. Not sure if it's aggravated by a certain kind of food. Anxiety seems to make my pain worse - naproxen and/or xanax seem to make it better. I don't know if it's due to reflux, muscular or what and I'm tired of tests. My reflux seems to occur most at night.

** Do any of you get this dull ache in the center of your chest? ** Does medicine help completely or not? I'm worried...please help.

It could be esophageal spasm. I get them, but they are not a dull. Usually a sharp pain. You shouldn't be scared of the scope, they will relax you for it and usually you will be out of it and won't even feel it. Go for it, it is worth it to find out what is happening. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.
